The C6 has a transmission which posseses the "snicket-snicket" feel similar to the S2k, very exact and short... The C5 has a nasty "clunk-clunk" feel which I despise ... For that reason alone I would go with the C6 no question...

Buyers remorse would eat me up in the C5 but you seemingly have a few sports cars/toys, so that's BS in your arena.

Do you ever plan to drive at night? The C6 headlight are world beyond the C5 and after having and S2k with HIDs it might be something you cannot live without.
The C6 is much more refined and just as fast.
If you dont need nav or the HUD you can get a C6Z51 for 44k pretty easily. Drive them both. The C5 Z06 "feels faster" beacause the powerband is different with the C6 having more torque down low and the Z having more HP up top. Both are very good performance cars. I choose the C6.

So a C5Z06 will go faster than 186mph? The C5 may be 1 tenth faster in the 1/4 but that is pretty much a drivers race. The C5Z06's I've run pulled me 1/2 car to about 80 where I began to make up ground and wind up dead even at 120. I'm sure your Z06 is faster but, stock for stock it is a drivers race.

C5 Z06 if track time is real important to you.
C6 Z51 if not.

===

As important track time is, if I were replacing the S2000, I would have to choose the C6 for the targa top, if for nothing else.

Performance wise they are almost equal. When you take in consideration the price difference between them the Z06 looks like the better choice. However the C6 is newer and more refined. I think it's all a matter of personal choice when it comes down to it. I plan to drive both and then make my choice. Also, I'm keeping my S2000 so the Z06 may make it a little less painful as I can save about 15 - 20 grand over the C6.

Oh yah you're right, forgot the C6 has a higher top speed. The C5 Z is not just a tenth quicker in the 1/4, I've seen them break into the high 11s trapping 115+. But I haven't seen a C6 break into the 11s and they trap around 112. My Z06 in stock form was walking C6 Z51s, about 1.5 to 2 cars from 50-120. Not sure if it was driver or what, but there's not that much skills involved in doing a 50-120 roll. That's like from 2 to mid 4th pull.

Mine trapped 12.6 @ 114 on a lame 2.2 60ft with street tires. I wonder what it would trap with a decent launch and 1.8 60ft? The only 11's Ive seen with C5Z06's were on drag radials . There are no drag radials available in stock C6 sizes. Give it some time and I think you will see stock C6 hit high 11's low 12's on DR's. Or maybe I'm wrong I think we can agree they are both great cars with the Z06 having a slight performance advantage.

Check this out

J-Rod --------1.818 60'--11.783 @ 116.90--xx/xx--Bone Stock ('02)
Ranger -------1.78x 60'--11.818 @ 117.26--xx/xx--Bone Stock ('02)

I know not everybody can get these kind of time out of a bone stock Z, but it's possible.

The 114 trap speed is pretty impressive considering the 60'.

I def. agree that they very close in performance, so close that it shouldn't really be a big deciding factor when choosing between the 2.

Don't know how true this is but there is a guy on Corvetteforum.com claiming to have run 11.98's on the stock run flats.

Cai, Cat back & Headers
JimSpeed, Z51 ...... 11.94 @117.99 06

Here's a list of times for the C6 from that forum:

STOCK RUBBER CLASS
2005 (2006 Model year noted by 06)
Drag Radials posted below stock ETs

Times are received from all over the country and are not corrected. Because track and weather conditions vary, this list ranking does not, and can not, identify the fastest cars or drivers in any particular order. It only lists the recorded times, regardless of conditions, in order from quickest to slowest.
