I wouldn't buy a used car, so I'd go for the C6 if I were choosing between the two.

Another thing that i noticed that their rears go quick too. I was wondering about the front tires, if they wear like the S2000's.
Most of the time we can get 1 set of fronts to 2 sets of rears.

I was considering not going Z51, just the base suspension, and the new
paddle shift auto tranny, the LT2 package. Im trying to hold it under 50k
dont skimp on the z51 if u go with a c6; its the only must have IMO

As for looks, its all personal and i may be biased but i dont like the exterior styling of the c6. It is however, more refined and has a much better interior. The driving experience is somewhat close but the c5z06 is a little sportier or nastier, however you want to phrase it. My next sports car is going to be a viper or porsche even though the new z06 is the better bang for the buck.

That is a tough choice, but I would lean toward the C6.

You will spend more on gas.My 06 s2k is averaging 23 mpg with the same driving. I got 17 in my C6,of course I was going much faster. If I drove it hard constantly 12-14.
I'm sure there will be a lot of s2k owners like me who will buy a C6 and miss their s2k,yeah its faster but no its not as nimble or fun in the twisties and you better get the vert. ( which means 50k+) if you like top down driving because the wind noise in the coupe with the top off makes it useless past 50mph plus its a PITA to remove and replace everytime you park somewhere or if it starts to rain. I would get the 6sp. paddle( I drove one and liked it) so your spouse can drive it and after an s2k the manual corvette tranny is clunky. So now you have a C6 z51 6spd auto power top convertable, list around 63k with GMID maybe pay 56k.Now that will replace your s2k and be an upgrade.

Having driven both a Z51 C6 and C5 Z06 extensively, I'd learn towards the C6. However, if you can get a killer deal on a clean C5 Z06, you really can't go wrong. It's driving experience is at least as good as the C6. The C6 has a better interior, is more refined, but still hauls a**.

Really, you need to drive both and make a decision that fits your priorities best. They are both fantastic cars.

The C6, even with Z51 package is a much softer car with more refinement. Ultimately I felt the C5 Z06 was a much more raw and connected experience compared to the almost luxuriously isolated C6.
I haven't driven a Z06, but had the same feeling about the C6 Z51 when I test drove it prior to buying my current S2000. It performed really well, just felt kind of isolated in how it did so, kind of like a video game.

I'd still consider one down the road, but this time around preferred the S2000's feel and covertible top over masssive torque and grip that would be more likely to get me in trouble on the street.
