Well I'll tell you what Raj.
If the manufacturers name tag on the Corvette was Porsche and it was still priced the same as what Chevy is able, then I think the squeaks and rattles and fit and finish would all of a sudden be part of the Porsche mystigue. And... all the Euro sports car enthusiasts would be raving about the new affordable supercar and what you were suddenly able to get for your buck!

Until MB gets rid of the slush box for the v-8's, some serious potential will be wasted in the smiles catagory.

After looking at the article, I finally saw why the Vette has such good gas mileage on the freeway. Its city gas mileage is so-so at 19, but its highway is at 28 mpg because the 6th gear is TALL! Comparing with the those cars in top gears at 30-50 and 50-70 mph, the Vette took twice the time to get there, even with such great torque. This means its top gear is SUPER OVERDRIVE, hence making the highway mileage so good. The city gas mileage is so-so at 19, even with the 1-4 skip shifts.

5th and 6th are overdrive gears

Gotta love being able to do near 100mph at 2000rpm or thereabouts though.

For this test top gear acceleration 30-70mph:
C6 20sec
Crossfire 5.9sec (it's a AT so it'll kick down)
Boxster 15.2sec
But here's the thing. Some mags give you top speed in gear C&D does not. C&D gives mph/1000 rpm in gear.
C6 4th gear 22.5mph/1000 rpm
BS 6th gear 23.9mph/1000 rpm
The Corvette will do 142mph in 4th gear. That'll get you around most tracks with 1st-4th gears. To get 142mph in the BS you'll need 6th gear. This might take away some of the fun-to-drive factor from the vette.

The best top gear acceleration numbers I've seen were from an AC/Shelby Cobra. The car only had three gears so it had great top gear numbers... and a low, redline limited top speed.
