Hey guys, as you can tell, I drive a ITR so I am not some Pro-EVO freak who is spreading lies. However, when expander said that EVO's can run 12's on stock boost, he was kinda right. Well, I think it would be more accurate to say no more PEAK boost. The stock turbo drops down from 19 psi at 3500 rpms to 16 psi near redline. What Vishnu did (www.vishnutuning.com) was keep the peak 19 psi but only let the boost fall to 17 psi at redline. Then, he prevented the ECU from backing down timing too much, which the stock ECU does a lot. This is why the maps on 91 ECU make 10 percent less power than the 93 octane maps, cause he could make the timing even more agressive. The fuel air ratios are also less rich.
However, I am still stuck between the S, the Rx-8, and the EVO. The EVO for its quick 2.1 lock to lock steering, the all wheel drive system, great suspension tuning, practicality, and great mod potential. I dont like the Looks (not cause they look BAD, but cause it gets attention from a crowd that I would rather not get attention from) and Mitsubishis make me worry, and Mitsubishis with turbos make me worry even more. The throws on the shifter arent the greatest either, and I'm not a stickler on interiors but that is one cheap interior (good seats tho)
The RX-8 for a really classy interior, practicality, pretty good looking in my opinion and seems to have a similar, if not quite at the level of, fun as the S. However, short of Forced Induction (which in itself, might be hard, even though the chief engineer claims that this motor is made for boost), power is going to be hard to come by, even more so than the S (no 4.44 gears to help, at least for a while), I think. Also, the car is like S2000 performance, without the frantic rush of a S2000 (at least that is what I get out of the reviews) and this is a bad thing for me, cause I'm young and I wanna have my heart beating, knowing that I'm alive.
The S is great, but the REAR DIFFERENTIAL/relatively weak drivetrain in general (esp. with clutches) really worries me. I could never really race this car, knowing that the rear differential is a damn time bomb just waiting if I launch at the strip. Also, I think I would try to make the S less tail happy, but I think a Mugen front sway and a front X brace would pretty much add as much understeer as I would like so that isnt that big of an issue.

Well, I just got my EVO and here's a little comparison.
Build quality - S2000
Mitsubishi's build quality is far from Honda's. The S2000 interior feels a lot more expensive compare to the EVO. Though, none of them compare to my IS300. After driving the EVO, my IS felt like a Rolls Royce.
Design - S2000
EVO is not beautiful, that's it! The S2K on the other hand is sexy
Engine - n/a
I'm still breaking in my EVO, but the mid-range power is as good as the S2000's VTEC range. The S2K engine idles much smoother.
Transmission - tie
The shifter on the S2K feels nicer, but the EVO shifts smoother.
Steering - EVO
They both have quick steering, but the one on the EVO feels more communicative. You feel almost everything on the road surface.
Ride - S2000
EVO rides just a little stiffer than the S2K, but much smoother than my IS300 with suspension mods.
Brakes - n/a
I'm still braking in those Brembos but they are noisier than stock S2K brakes. Pedal feels stiffer too.
Seats - EVO
S2K seats are more comfy, but EVO's Recaros have better lateral suppot.

I thought the STI was going to be all you???
ITR#203 - did vinshu use a boost controller to keep the boost at 19psi?....and.... I have not seen any Evo run "low" 12's... 12.4-12.5 for boost controller, new inter-cooler, exhaust and intake,
it is a great car 100% stock IMO.

I agree that I have not seen any EVO run "low 12's". I think the car will need every bolt on part avaliable in order to reach that (intake, downpipe, exhaust, boost controller, S-AFC or XEDE, and bigger intercooler, all tuned well of course). With a good driver that MIGHT be enough to make it to high high 11's but to make it into solid 11's (by solid I dont mean 11.99, I'm saying 11.5-11.7 is pretty solid mid to high 11's), a new turbo is gonna be needed. Not cause it cant make good power, but cause a shift into 5th is gonna be necessary, and to overcome that disadvantage, it will need massive amounts of power. I wish a taller 4th gear and 5th gear were avaliable or maybe a taller final drive, cause if 4th topped out at around 115 instead of 109, it would be a lot easier to run 11's.
Vishnu does not use a boost controller, instead they use pre-programed ECU's (XEDE). Here's a link explaining XEDEs from vishnu's site. http://www.vishnutuning.com/xede.htm

I think 4th at the rev limiter is closer to 120mph.... my car does not shut off until about 7700rpm.... in a case like track use, I will most likely just let it run near 7500-7700rpm at 120mph or so, instead of switching up to 5th for 2 seconds.....

Sorry, I had forgotten that even tho EVO's redline at 7000, they can go up to around 7500. Does it really go up to 120 though? Even with a 7500 rpm fuel cut, another 500 rpms doesnt seem like another 11 mph.
While we are on the reving beyond the redline topic, I dont know if it will be worth it at that point at least in stock or mildly modded form. Torque is falling pretty far by then. I agree that on a quarter mile run, it might be better to just stay in 4th, but all the other gears I think I would shift before 7500, what do you think?

Well, I still have my deposit on the STi. Once people get the car and confirmed its potential. I might sell the EVO.
