Buddy picking up new loaded LS460 tomorrow
My buddy was kind of in the market for a new car, so I was steering him to some different models. He was originally interested in the GS350/460, but thought it was a little small in the back seat and didn't ride that smooth. He drove the LS460 and was sold.
So, a few weeks go by and his wife picks up a new Caddy SRX (she likes them for some reason :rolleyes) and tells her husband that he should go ahead and get himself a new car too.
So, he goes to a few Lexus dealers in town and drives the ES350, GS350, and LS460. He wants the LS460. So, they offer him $3500 for trade on his '01 Pathfinder he bought new out of college and $5k off sticker. Not too bad, but he really wasn't feeling strongly one way or another. It was a $73k car which is a lot of coin and he wasn't quite sure. So, I tell him to go ahead and low ball them and if they take it, then it's a sign to get the car. So, I recommend to counter $4500 on trade (that is what NADA and KBB were showing) and $8,000 off sticker. He calls and tells them. His sales guy said he'll have to call my buddy back. Less than an hour later, they call him and tell him they'll take his deal. I was shocked.
Cliff Notes:
Friends wants a new, loaded LS460 ($73k sticker or so)
They originally offer $3500 for his trade and $5k off.
I tell him to counter at $4500 for his trade and $8k off.
They accept!!
The market must not be doing so hot if they'll knock $8k off a brand new flagship Lexus car.

If it was a 73K car, then I'm assuming that's the long wheelbase version (or a well optioned short version). There's over 8K between the sticker & invoice price (before options) on the base version & 9500 between sticker & invoice on the long version, so they're still making money at 8K off sticker. If he had any options, the profit margin increases.
It's still a good deal, but not unreasonable.

He has a well-optioned short version. He's happy with the deal and I think it's fine, so that's all that matters.
