i'm sorry but the boxster just isn't in the same league as the S2000...now Boxster S i'd take over my S sorry
but i'd take a S2000 + $20-$30 in cash over a boxster S hence my MY04 purchase

The only reason you see more Boxsters is because they've been out longer. And as someone who travels regularly - I can tell you that I'm already seeing more S2000's (hmmm, S2000 first on the market in fall '99, Boxster -what, 97?).
How a car with wider rubber that appears wider than the S overall is girly I'll never know. And please no "I see so many women in Boxter nonsence" I hear that all the time yet I'm shocked at how many women I see in S2000's - hmm I must be the only one seeing them if you read this board. I had my M3 for 3 years (in NY can't speak for anywhere else) before I saw a female driving one - oops except the lady from Maine running advanced class at The Bridge and running lap after lap with a dude in a Viper.
Boxster is not 'outperformed' by a S2000. The S2000 is faster, but the handling traits of a Boxster ('specially with it's optional sport suspension - still not a Boxster S) is pretty exceptional.
Useable torque? Really, what are your other cars. The torque on an S2000 below 6000 is useable in the civic sense, but heck, there are so many cars for much less than an S - with no performace aspirations, that have more 'useable torque' than an S2000. Of course we just use more revs .
If I seem a little pissed it's because I can't stand the whole Boxster sucks nonsense. It typically comes from guys who do nothing more than cruise around and street race. Everyone here quotes EVO and other British mags as the only source of automotive excellence. Guess which car they pick time and again in comparisons? Yip that would be the regular Porsche Boxster over the S2000.
I love my S2000 (for now) and autocross the heck out of it - which is maybe why I have more appreciation for other fine cars as well.

The S2000 is just as much or more fun to drive than the Boxster S. I've driven the base Boxster as well and it's no comparison. Also keep in mind that the base price for either Boxster does not include things such as larger wheels or Xenon lights. The standard leather that comes with these cars is more like leatherette, not real leather all around. I know you said to remove the 10K difference, but it's more like 15K minimum.

I think if we were comparing boxster S to a s2k without price being an issue(i.e. winning in a raffle) then it would be a tough decision. However, the base boxster is noway near the performance capabilities of a S2k. SO, there is nothing to debate.

The base boxster is very close to the straight line performance of the S2000 and in some regards a better vehicle in terms of handling.
Given the choice between the two I would opt for the Porsche if the price was equal. The Porsche is overall the better and more refined vehicle.
