the 997 is more money than the RS4, and you do lose 4wd -- i would never get a 4S -- id go TT before a 4S.

i look at it this way -- spending more than $40K on any car doesnt really make economic sense, so you're making a purchase out of passion (need vs want). it wouldnt make sense for me to blow by my '$40K' car budget by $30K on an RS4 when for $10K more i could have my absolute dream car, the 997S.

but i do wish i had enough cash not worry about a $40K budget and could man up to buy a super sporty sedan like the RS4.

Congrats on the whip and enjoy!

strange turn of events my co-worker had a 998 turbo was his dream car but after 4 years he traded it in on a S4 (not even a RS4).

I agree about the C4 being too close to the turbo, you're 80% of the way to a turbo so might as well go for it.

998 turbo? Damn, that must have been sick! Joking

What if you want the cabriolet?

I can't live without convertible-ness.

Unfortunately, like ALL Porsches, options on the Turbo cause most of them to cost over $140k

Hope they come out w/ a cabriolet version.

the shifter aside... im under the assumption the Cayman S/Boxster S steering and brakes are significantly better than an S2K? especially with their optional "shorter diameter/thicker steering wheel"...

[QUOTE=mikey stone,Apr 11 2007, 03:25 PM]i went and checked out the RS4, and man, that is one of the most beautiful cars on the road, period.

my only caveat is that for that amount of money i would rather be driving a 997(S) off the lot.

By the way:

Porsche 911 Carrera S configured to: Luxury

MSRP: $100,160

The RS4 only has one option package (that everyone gets). MSRP $70,700
Includes 6-CD changer, Bose, XM, MP3 CD card player, heated seats, rain sensing wipers, auto dimming, Navigation, BiXenons, etc.

We're talking close to $30,000 difference, similarly optioned.

Some people would rather have a C2S than an RS4 + S2k. If I lived in a different location, had a different job, a different wife, etc. I might have made that choice.

Me.

Work is work. No excuses. When you gotta get there, you got to get there.

That's why we did an FJ Cruiser with 32" Blizzak tires... but my wife's S4 never got stuck either so we realized it was overkill.

i would still choose the S2000. in the almost 4 years i have owned my car it has not needed repair, just maintenance, which 99% of i can and do my self. it uses no oil, has not returned to the dealer for warranty work, and continues to offer up an exciting ride on a daily basis.

why would i choose a car that costs 40% more new....costs thousands to maintain over several years, and has inferior performance and electronics? the badge...yes that is it...ihave had the badge before and it costs me as before there was no S2000.

someday i may buy a used porsche again...but i would choose the honda again over the porsche, even for even money.
