Boxster vs S2000 straight up
I just entered a sweepstake for a Boxster or a 6-cylinder Cayenne. I hope if I win I can take the cash value on another Porsche (like a 911). But if not, I'd probably take the Boxster.
So I went to see the actual price of a Boxster (I've never looked at anything except the Boxster S).
Boxster $42,600
Boxster S $51,600
That's around $10/20K more than S2000.
Let's take away the $10K price difference. I'm talking only about the Boxster (NOT the Boxster S).
Would you take one straight up (same price) over the S2000?
2.7L flat-6 with 225 HP and 192-TQ I believe in addition to the extra TQ it's what they call useable TQ because it's at 4800 rpm.
It only has a 5-speed MT
It weighs 2811 (around the same as the S2000)
For me, I like the S2000 better, but I see them more or less as equal cars. But the Porsche has more prestige and thus cost's more.

The s2000 totally blows away a BASE Boxster in just about every performance category. I say S2K, hands down. Now a Boxster S is a much worthier competitor. That WOULD BE a tough choice. Hmmm.

while the boxter's torque peaks at 4800, the S's peaks at 7500. Now, the S has plenty of torque from 3000 on...it's still "usable."
Straight up, it would be the S. While mid-engine, boxters are hard to work on and I see them everywhere.

boxsters are girly.
Let's imagine if the S2000 didn't exist.
You'd have:
MR-2 spyder (due to be discontinued)
Z4
Miata
350Z vert
Vette
Boxster
SLK
Crossfire
On that lsit, the Boxster looks pretty good.
I see just as many S2000s as Boxsters.

You guys are harsh. Boxsters are expensive, but IMO they are superior to many cars.

IF price were no object and IF the StooK did not exist, THEN the Boxster would be a good choice.
IF that were the case, that is.

He said IGNORE the price difference....
So I did..... when I was looking at used, I could have had a used boxster (a few years older than a used S) but for the same price.
I've always wanted a porsche but the S just appealed to me MUCH MUCH more. Maintenance on the Boxster scared me, I wouldn't be able to work on it myself.
The S IMO is MUCH better looking, the boxster is odd shaped.
