i think the boxster's a great car...handles well (being mid engined) and sounds awesome!
Its also more confortable than the s2k, and hence i guess easier to live with on a daily basis.
i dont think the 996 and boxster are comparable, being completely different cars...

Boxster is more luxurious and practical. Faster around a road course, but less fun to drive at an autocross.
The S2000 provides a more raw, visceral driving experience. Which appeals to me more.

Well don't you think this question being asked on an S2000 forum is going to be biased?
As for me... The S2000! It fit's MY needs better. 4 Cylinder Performance/Cost ratio Easy for ME to work on Parts are cheaper Buttery smooth transmission 9000RPM Redline ( I own an '01)
I like the no frills stripped down look of the S2000. Not meant for foo-foo, just to have the piss driven out of it
I looked into the Boxster, but it didn't appeal to me.
The Boxster is 15 to 20G's more expensive. Maintenance costs are more. I'm sure it's a comfy ride It does sound nice, but not like an S at full song They are EVERYWHERE you look. Maybe that's because it's a Porsche that people can actually afford?

To quote the guys from Top Gear, "There's only one reason you buy a Boxster. One. It's because you can't afford a 911".
I looked at getting a used Boxster S (the S2000 should be faster in most respects than a base Boxster) but even a USED Boxster S was $15-20K more expensive than an S2000.
In the end, I thought a new Honda was a better value than a used Porsche and both provided (for me) the same fun-to-drive quotient. Sure, it's nice to say you own a Porsche, but I wasn't willing to pay an extra $15K for that privilege.

I would rather have the S than a boxter. Simple fact that you see less of them, and IMHO they look better. I see more of practically any other care than s2000's and its great to know that you are one of the few proud owners of such a beautiful car...
