Yeah, $30k could go a long way upgrading the fleet!

I'd rather have a S/C S2000 + newish Pathfinder / used FX

than

New Boxster S + rusting crapmobile....

Because the SUV is the car we pick up our friends and go out to dinner in....

But if you already have very nice alternate cars in the fleet, house paid off, kids' college fund put away, and lots of cash in the bank... I'd pay the extra money for the Boxster S.

Time to start saving up so I can "afford" one by the time the S2k bites it!
But who knows what new shiny car will appear by then?

I would go with the S/C S2000.

On a side note: I'd get a used NSX before a BS.

I chose 2002 S2000 with Comptech S/C and $30K cash. I would prefer the 9000 rpm rev limiter to the 8000 rpm rev limiter, plus I'd also like the extra $10K in my pocket.

The Boxster S appears to be just about the perfect sports car for daily driving (plus fun on the track and such). It's not too big, it's moderately powerful, and supposedly easy to drive (I've never driven one).

However, I'd much rather a "more hardcore" car and the extra cash to get a pretty nice daily driver than a really nice sports car that does everything well (except carry four people). I'm too logical to pick the BS over the S2000 with a good daily driver, in my current position... Of course, if I had a daily driver already, I'd grab the Boxster S, I think.

I picked the third option, I mean shoot you can use that extra 30,000 for so much more, by a used G35, used STi, EVO or something extra. I would be much happier with a Supercharged S2k and a G35 in my stable than just a Boxster.

At my time of purchase, I chose the S2000 simply because I like the looks of it a lot more and it was pretty much identical to the BS's performance level for a lot less of the price. Even now, it's still pretty close.

I certainly could've bought the BS if I had wanted, but it looks too plain jane IMO and there are too many Boxsters around my area. Sure, the Boxster S may be superior to the S is some ways, but I'm just not paying $20K more for a car of which I don't like the looks of and especially when I can get a car that does everything I need for much less.

But the new Boxster S will be >> than a stock S2000.
Old ones, no brainer. But now, nicer interior and larger engine....

But I'll still take the $30k and upgrade the beater SUV into something nice. When I've upgraded all the other cars in the fleet, then maybe the Boxster S....

I'd definitely go with the S/C S2000, either one, over the new Boxter S. I'd get a Vette, NSX, or a Viper if I was going to spend 60k.

If an extra $20k ain't that big of a deal to you, then you may as well go for the latest and greatest. For us poor bastards that search for the lowest price for everything, then the S2k is your better/more logical choice.

Ask the same question on a Porsche site & you're going to get reverse answers.

The Boxster just doesn't light my fire. It's a great car, good to drive (I've had a go in the older S version), but an S2000 excites me more.

Guess I'm just not a Porsche fan (and never have been).
