I am luckily placed in a postion where i can get rid of my beloved MDX. I luv it, but its not for me. so, i am planning on replacing it with either a Boxster S, or a NSX. It will be my daily driver for couple of years, and then become a track/garage queen. I forgot to mention this, the price cap is $55k. So, i am mainly looking at 2001-2002 Boxster S, or 1997-1999 NSX.
what do you guys think.
1. which one is better from a daily driver standpoint.
2. which one is more reliable(i think i know already). I ask b/c there is no porsche or Acura dealer in East Tx.
3. I know the road data, but which one is easier to handle at the limit on the streets and on the track.

I say from an unbiased standpoint that you should get the NSX
Why?? Cause it looks amazing...and the Boxster is played out, the style of the NSX is sporty yet classy while the boxster just isnt cutting it. Not to mention you will have a VTEC engine to back you up on the high end
Boxster 3.2 liter 24-valve DOHC horizontally opposed six
250 horsepower at 6250 rpm
225 lb-ft at 4500 rpm
0-60 time 5.7 seconds
1/4 mile time of 14.17 s @ 99.51 mph
NSX 24-valve DOHC VTEC V-6
3.0 auto: Horsepower 252 @ 6600 Torque 210 @ 5300 Redline 7500RPM
3.2 manual: Horsepower 290 @ 7100 Torque 224 @ 5500 Redline 8000RPM
0-60 time of 4.5 seconds
1/4 mile time of 12.9 seconds
Of course the Boxster is 50,000 and the NSX is 90,000 brand new so....depends on how much you wanna spend. My suggestion, buy a 97+ since 97 was the year they improved the engines hp and the top speed of the NSX has been increased from 168 to 175 mph in 2002

thanks for the replies guys.
my budget is $55k. so, new prices don't matter.
the one thing that bugs me about the nsx is that its a 12 year old design. granted, its better than most cars on the road- ever, but like AVX2000 said, the nsx is going to be completely redesigned in a 1 yr.
the redesigned boxster is very similar to the present car in looks. so, that is not going to be an issue. sure it will be improved, have 280hp etc. but it won't cost $41k.

Coming from a Porsche owner, I would get the NSX. Unless it was between a 911 & NSX that might different. In terms of reliability both are really good. Both are great daily drivers too. The Boxster S will give you a convertible top, so maybe look for an NSX-T. Both are very good track cars, but the hp edge is clearly in the NSX'es favor. The big issue is that you have to find a clean 97-99 NSX. The styling is still good because of the exclusivity of the NSX. Situation is very similar to the 96-2002 Vipers. They still carry a good mystique because there are so few of them.

I think you could find a 97 NSX for that price area. Maybe. If I was looking in the 55k range, I wouldn't even look at the boxster. Used NSX, New Z06, New ///M3. Even though the z06 is an AMURICHAN car, its performance is second to none. But out of those three I think I would pick the M3 over the NSX becuase I would perfer a new car over a used car.

If you can wait, just wait for the new NSX.
My guy at Acura told me the new NSX will come in 2 versions. A sub $60k and a more than $90k (difference being the engines).
Of course, this won't be soon.

nsx is a great car but its time has passed, too Don Johnson/Miami Vice looking for today. It was a early 90's bad ass. Go with Suvh8r' recomendations, the new m3 is hot hot hot. and you could get one loaded for that price. or a 97-98 porsche turbo too, they never go out of style.

Get the NSX.
Here's why: I was just now walking back to my room from class, and I was passing the parking garage. The NSX went UNDERNEATH the little gate thingy at the parking garage toll booth - you know, the thing that comes down and then goes up when yuo pay? Ya. That thing.
Anyway, that's my reasoning: You don't have to pay for parking.
