I've never driven a Z4M, but I drove a 987 Boxster S before. The car was great fun, and the handling I'd say was better than a 997S. Also the Porsche was more reliable than any BMW products I have.

Maybe the regular Z4 does, but the old Z3 M roadsters really keep their values. So the same may be true for the MZ4.
Kelly Blue Book says that 2007 M roadster is predicted (by them) to hold slightly better value after 3 years than a 2007 Boxster S. Slight surprise to me. It looks like about 56% vs. 52%, so difference is pretty much in the noise, but still.

The S54 engine has won the International Best Engine of the Year EVERY YEAR since 2000, the first year the S54 engine came out.
it has been on their list longer than every engine in the world except for Nissan's VQ35 which been on since back when it was a 3.0...

I need test drives too. I sure want to like the M Coupe but the Cayman S reads like the total sports car package if you can swing the $$.
My wife and I both fell head over heals for it, and I became obsessed enough to throw fiscal restraint out the window. No regrets, either - it seemingly can do no wrong, and is very confidence inspiring through maneuvers that would have you needing a change of underwear in most other cars (incl. the S2000).

I was a totally content S2000 owner w/ some free time on my hands, so I took a Cayman S for a "tire kicking" test drive...a very expensive one!

Love conquers all, including fiscal restraint.
