BM Z4M.
Its looks more roadster then the boxster (IMHO), and there are less of them on the roads.
I believe the engine was engine of the year also (not sure which year). Thats enough for me

Many engines have been crowned "engine of the year" - that doesn't make the rest of the car great. A true sportscar has a proper chassis, braking, steering and great driver feedback.

and the average individual can't tell the difference between a Z4 and a Z4M.

The MZ4 is not going to get a V8. Next year is going to be the E85's last production year. The E92 M3 will have just come out and no way BMW lets the MZ4 steal all the thunder away from the M3. Also the V8 will mean that BMW will have to change the Z4 production line (V8 will be mounted from the bottom). Currently the Z4, the MZ4, and the X5 are all sharing the same production line and BMW isn't going to specifically change that for a limited production car (limited production compared to the regular Z4 and the X5).

The S54 engine has won the International Best Engine of the Year EVERY YEAR since 2000, the first year the S54 engine came out. If you have no idea what that means, don't pretend you do.

In the first few years, it meant many grenading engines, which demonstrated the uselessness of such "awards". Those things are meaningless.
I like the BS much more than the ZM but this is very subjective. I would have to think twice before owning either car out of warranty. Do some research on the enthusiast forums for those cars. I have no idea of what issues the Z has but quite a few Boxsters end up needing engine and tranny replacements, some cars running on their third engines. Others have no trouble at all with their Boxsters so it depends on who you talk to.
In my price range (well below $30k), if it wasn't for the cost of ownership, I would have bought the BS but I wouldn't have had a warranty at that price. Your best bet might be a 1 year old with a CPO warranty which would give you 5 years of warranty in front of you. I bought my S2000 as a CPO when it was 6 months old so I have a better warranty than if I had bought it new and for a much lower price to boot.
The ZM and BS are awesome cars. Test drive both several times each and go with the one that speaks to you the most.

I have both a BMW and a Honda, so I have an idea.
But this time I done my homework and am going to lease! So maintenence costs is not an issue.
