There's no way this should be called the M1. It would be an insult to the pedigree and history of BMW Motorsport

Even today the old BMW M1 is a pretty significant engineering watermark. What 3-liter class 6-cylinder back then was putting out 274 NA horsepower? The 1980 911 3.3 Turbo put out around 296hp, but obviously was not NA.
You could say it was the pre-NSX NSX.

Man Honda should've slapped something like the BMW 320si engine in the AP2. I mean its a 2.0 liter, 4cylinder in-line engine. It cranks out 275bhp@8400. I'd drive it.

So there were a lot of words in the OP, but did it ever say how much HP the proposed "M1" actually will have? If not then I want my 5 minutes back.
edit: I guess "350 PS" was in there somewhere....my bad.

It would be stupid for BMW to name it anything other than "M1". There are only a few 'purists' that even remember (or care) that the original M1 ever happened. They want to sell this car to the masses, they'll only confuse people if they call it anything else.
this will be a kickass car, who cares what badge is on it?

I don't care what anybody says, calling something that looks like a Neon 2-door an M1 is flat out wrong, the automotive apocalypse is upon us all if BMW moves forward on this nomenclature.
