BIG job-cuts for GM

Yea, i read this on the news. How tragic, but some could've seen it coming. But, laying off is normal, especially in an economy such as today. These employees should be able to acquire new jobs after time passes. I wish them luck.

Hard to get manufacturing jobs as good as UAW pay, but I wish them well too.
Here in St Paul there is a Ford Ranger plant that may get the ax one of these days. Ranger sales are down I thought I read about 45% from last year. That is a huge drop. What may save our plant is that it is on the very modern side of things as millions were fed into it to upgrade a few years ago.

Maybe the announcement is all about PR, not change...
"But analyst Michael Bruynesteyn of Prudential Equity Group said eliminating 25,000 or more hourly jobs through 2008 would only be in line with the normal 5 percent annual retirement or attrition rate at GM."

GM cut 25,000 jobs between 2001-2004....this is all status quo.....just publicity for stock holders so it seems like GM has a plan........
if I were a GM stockholder, I'd want a PLAN to get GM out of this mess aka NEW, BETTER PRODUCTS....e.g. invest in hybrids and other innovations and not the new escalade.
