Default which is better to learn to ride on??

i was thinking about an R6 or an F4i...my main concern is the width of the bike..i might be 5'11" but i only weigh about 155..so i'm a small guy..so i don't want to feel outweighed by the bike even tho i obviously will be...i've sat both bikes and they are both pretty comfy especially when compared to a GSXR..also i was thinkin of something smaller than a 600 maybe a 500...i dunno i don't know much about bikes..any advice u can give a beginner is appreciated..thanx

For your first bike I'm going to suggest you look for something like a used SV650. It won't be as fast as either of these bikes, but it should beat almost anything rolling on 4 wheels to 100mph.

It will have a steel frame and no faring, so when you tip over in a parking lot, the repair bill will still be tolerable. Plus, it's a twin so narrower between the legs - therefore easier to move around.

If you must have one of these two I think the R6 is a better choice - but I am biased.

I disagree, I think a Kawasaki ZX-10R or a Suzuki Hayabusa makes great first bike. Any bike with less than a 150 hp is dangerously underpowered.

The only advice I will give you, is wear FULL gear. I mean protective pants, jacket, and gloves..ALL THE TIME! if you are going to learn to ride with one of these bikes, you will need the protection. Also, I would suggest getting frame sliders, and taking all the plastics off the bike you possibly can.

Serious.

Oh and another thing; a lot of people are going to tell you to waste your money on expensive leather riding gear when all you reall need is a pair of cool sunglasses, a t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. Why spend all that money to protect yourself against a crash your not going to have?

Maybe you're even lucky enough to live in a state that doesn't require you to wear a helmet!

My recommendation is to put the savings on the helmet and riding gear together and you can invest in some immediate power up mods such as a 'zorst and big bore kit.

I just recently bought an 04 R6 and here are my specs: 5'3" 120lbs with absolutely no prior riding experience (not even mopeds). If I can ride 600's I think anyone can, especially if your 5'11" you got a huge advantage.
