i searched and found out that the 91-93 and 97+ are the better years when shopping for nsx because the 91-93 can be made quite fast with type r final drive gears. they are also lighter because powersteering does not come with the nsx during 91-93. the 97+ are 6spd and are faster than the earlier years. i also read about the tranny "ring" somewhere can cause some problems which needs to be fixed. correct me if im wrong on any of this are there any other things i should look out for ......for example how s2000 (2001) has the plastic window, no tweeters, clutch buzz, things like that which you should avoid when in the market for a used s2000. thanks for the help guys. i hope can get my nsx soon
If you are seriously interested, I would be more than happy to help you with your search for an NSX. I have owned NSX's since the late 90's and still have them. Great cars. Let me know if I can help.

...the old nsx's are stiffer because they are a fixed roof and not the targa top. I don't remember off the top of my head what year that took place, but I just remember when I was thinking about one that I was looking for a 94 because it had the updated ac and dual airbags...
The targa top NSX-T was available in 1995 model year as the first year. After that NSX-T was standard and you could special order a fixed roof coupe if you wanted one. Coupes from 1996 on are VERY rare.

94 cars have the color matched roof and newer style wheels, they look exactly the same as the 97 cars. They are slower but respond slightly better to mods, like headers, etc. That's prolly what I'd get...
Not totally true. Most 1994 cars still had the black roof, but DID have the updated wheels. The exception to the black roof rule in 1994 was that some of the Brooklands Green NSX in 1994 had green roofs, the rest had the black roofs like all the other colors. 1995 was the first year for color matched roofs on NSX-T. If you ordered a coupe after 1995 it came with the black roof, and NSX-T (targa models) all came with color matched roofs.

Speaking of valve jobs, maintenance on those cars is astronomical. My brother spent something like $3500 for a valve job, timing belt repl., clutch repl., and new brakes. Car (MY92) drives great again, but dang!!
Maintenance is only bad if you need a lot of work at once, and any car would be high then. A normal valve adjustment on the NSX should not cost more than $800. More expensive than an Accord, but not unbearable.

...Too bad we can't get the hardtop 3.2L 6sp version in the US...that's why I prefaced everything with "US" up top, cuz the hardtop 3.2L 6sp (any) would be my top pic.
Yes, you can get the hardtop 3.2L NSX in the states. They were special order, and there are some in the U.S.A. you just have to look for them.

hmm......i guess ill look into 94 and 97 and up.....wow thanks for all the great info but im kind of scared to buy the car. not because of the price itself but because of the price of maintenance
Do not be scared of the maintenance. In the years I have owned these cars I have never had to spend a ton on repairs. It all depends on the car you buy and if you find one in well maintained shape. Every bit as reliable as any other Honda.

Don't worry about the maintenance...the only expensive maintenance is:timing belt/water pump and clutch...everything else is the same. Valve job might be a little bit more expensive than other cars, but not that much more.
Thank you!!

Yes, if you use the OEM Yokohama A-022 tires and drive the car hard using the early alignment settings. If you change tires and settings that is not a problem as much.

I just picked up a '91. You definitely get the exotic car feel behind the wheel of the NSX.

It's heading for the mod shop (wheels/tires, suspn)
Congrats! What color combo? Any pictures?

If you are worried about timing belt/water pump cost then buy a NSX that has it done already. Oil changes, brakes can be easily done on the car. Unless its been wrecked, every else runs fine. Remeber, it is a Honda after all.

btw, please read NSXprime FAQ. all you questions can be easily answered there. Once you know what you want, then start a search.

IMHO:

1. Mod priority: 91-94. Cheaper, OBD I- so more aftermarket choices. SC/Turbo options. 100 HP NA with stage 3 SOS kit.

2. Track car: Zanardi>91-94>97+ coupe>97+ NSX - T.

3. Fun Car: ANY NSX WILL SUFFICE.
