Thread revive re the nurburing - I recently just received the NSX-R Nurburgring test - which has a couple of laps round the ring by GanSan (Kurosawa) -
Re the actual nurburgring test - it was a time of 7:56:77ish I think, on the closed norschleiff track - GTG - with a flying start -
It was a very well driven lap - as you would expect - interestingly on the straight the car was doing max 260-270kpish - (bumps etc) - on the autobahn he got it up to 280kph.
Very interestingly, at the end, there was a list of previous cars they had tested round the ring - the R33 was clocked at 8:01 - some time ago, there was a sub 8min r33 time going round - but if you remember, that was not on stock rubber.
Overall, the nsx-r was very impressive, especially since it was stock out of the box - w/o any race rubber on
umm - can't mpeg it up - but perhaps i can org a viewing if enuff are interested - am in sydney now -

The two C5's didn't perform that great and had to do cool down laps every 3-4 laps, the Z06 did pretty well but had to slow down every 4 laps too.
What I do see consistently are the fast guys from all walks of life (P car owners, BMW owners, etc) migrating in herds to the best bargain out there -- the Z06. Wanna be the fastest guy out there on lapping days? Spend 50k on the Z06, 1k in rubber and a couple grand in instruction. It's a forumla to embarass modified 911 Turbos.
It's good to see so many folks defending the M3 -- but personally I can't agree. I love the S54 -- in my M coupe. I can't imagine saddling it with another 3-400 pounds and then dialing in a butt-load of understeer and expecting it to be fun -- or particulary fast.

Thanks for the info Tze, but I have to argue about the tyres. Yes, the NSX-R had the OEM tyres, but from what I read about them they are semi-race tyres. Do a search on Bridgestone RE070 and see what returns ... from the sound of it is closer to RE540s tyres than something like the S02s (or any other high perfromance road-tyres). In some ways that's not 100% fair finght (and might explain the Best Motoring video where it appears that the NSX-R keeps up with the likes of Murchielago). To look at a car on comparative tyres look at a 911 GT3 CUP which also comes OEM with semi-race rubber and that has managed 7:46 aorund the N'ring in the same hands that steered the NSX-R to 8:08.

I just got it from Import Dev a few weeks ago, and it's a pretty dope race... Gansan really drives the S hard, and does a really great job, until he goes a bit too wide, goin a bit to fast.
Overall a great DVD!
