Best AWD under $40k?
hey guys friend of mine is looking for a new car under $40K that is AWD, either an SUV or Wagon....she could care less about performance but just wants a good overall car (emphasis on reliability, build quality, etc...).
i was thinking audi a3 or a4 avant, fx35,.....
Any suggestions/input you have is appreciated.

How big of a wagon? I'm guessing with the A3 it doesn't need to be that big.
But any of the Subaru's should also fit the bill and are quite nice.
Reliability/Build Quality, You can get a lexus RX350, but that'll be close to taht 40K price point, the new Toyota Highlander is nice as well.

Strictly utilitarian- Forester.
Otherwise, test drive and choose. I'm still skeptical of german car's reliability, or more specifically, day to day costs (I mean the cars more or less start and drive every morning like any other car, but when it does go to the docs man the bills hurt, and the visits seem to be a little more frequent than a simple japanese car). Lexus is always a good choice since they do hold their value very well, but I prefer the Infiniti FX, more my style if I were to buy something that's higher than 1' off the ground.
