Best 4-dr compact sports sedans for under $55K...

i would view a 2000 M5 as a pretty big car.... they weigh over 4000lbs... to me that is big....
I would think that would be a great daily driver / once in a while track toy choice, as long as it came with a full warranty.

Thanks for the input guys. I should've mentioned it would be for "occasional" track use, and not like a dedicated track car to achieve personal best times.

I have enjoyed my 06 330i Sport with manual transmission. Should be about $40 grand or so without i-drive.
That said, with a higher budget, I'd probably go for the S4 or CTS-V (you could probably get the CTS-V for closer to $45K if not lower)

Lexus IS350
BMW 330i
Infiniti G35 sedan
Subaru Legacy GT sedan
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR
Subaru Impreza WRX STI
I vote for these, unless some of them are not compact.

Used B5 S4 with updated everything.
I put a couple hundred miles on it at Mid-Ohio and while the upgrades drastically improved the car, it was still not the perfect track car. Keep in mind, the motor is entirely in front of the front wheels. Learn to work with what you have and the car is a blast.
My new S4 is V8 powered and a better platform than the old one, but it still suffers the same drawbacks. I have not tracked it (yet ) and I have no plans to mod it. The DBW system is horrible--the old car had it too, but never was this much of a pain in the ass.
