IMO, Carmax screws you either buying or selling...they're minting money by having impatient/lazy people come to them for an easy disposition of their used cars.

I'll bet I could sell my fiance's '06 Jetta TDI for MSRP in CA once it reaches 7500 miles! '06 is the last year for this fuel sipper (for now), so it should hold its value very well.
Who in their right mind would pay you MSRP for a used car? Is the TDI in that great of demand?

I sold my year old VW to carmax for slightly more than I paid in order to get my S. I lucked out because they didnt have the specific car listed in their computer and they bumped it up to a higher trim level.

I've heard a lot of stories about people getting lowballed on pricing or others passing off cars with known problems. It's worth a shot to see what they offer if you are also thinking of trading it into a dealership.

IIRC, 18 mos ago Mk IV GLIs were going out the door around $20k or maybe a little more. So getting $17k now for it is pretty good.

RSXs hold their value really well, though. Acura has never sold that many. They're not exactly collectors items, but.....

Also, a lot of GLI owners are probably ditching their cars for the Mk V GTIs or Jettas. So there may be a lot of them for sale right now.

You can't buy a new TDI in CA. And you can only import one into CA if it has 7500+ miles on it.

So yeah, they're in that much demand in places. As as the Prius.
