Is Adrian van Hooydonk an improvement?

I personally dont think they would've been as successful without him. I mean they're one of 3 German luxury marks. Controversial styling gets people talking..whether it be positive or negative. I think at this point it would've been too expensive to keep him and Adrian on. BMW is known for switching things up. The company forces all CEOs to retire at age 60!

My birdie says the "Project i" had been the main reason he decided to resign from BMW AG Design Director position. He believed in his idea, the bosses in the other. He was overruled, and since he was a man of principles he resigned due having no support from the bosses. And then left BMW AG, but will still cooperate with BMW on some projects (mainly non-automotive by DesignWorksUSA), and will also work as a consultant to BMW in some cases.

Mind: DO NOT EXPECT any changes in BMW / MINI / RollsRoyce design language & strategy. All is set already for the whole generation of cars. And at least regarding BMW Adrian van Hooydonk was a direct protege to Bangle. Their view on BMW design is still very in sync. And fully supported by Board of Directors.

Btw ... some designers from BMW design department are also leaving BMW, and joining Bangle in his company.

With AVH being promoted to Director of design BMW AG, 2 spots in BMW design department are now open: Head of design BMW Automobile, and Chief of interior design BMW Automobile.

I'm eager to see who will be filled in.
Save your "THANK GODS" lol

I was never that put off by the Banglezations and Banglestrocities.

In the past, there's sort of been a continuum of organic on one side and artificial on the other being characterized by soft vs. hard lines, but I think it's really blurred and the basic design aesthetics mixed. Plus it tends to go back forth every 10 years or so.

I thought it was a nice change up and BMW has done well since he's been the lead designer.

Hopefully he'll start making slacks.

Well, for those of you who hate the Z4 and blamed Bangle for it and are glad to hear that he resigned, just thought I'd mention that Adrian van Hooydonk was the guy who designed the E85 Z4 and he's taking over Bangle's position. Bangle was also the head of BMW automobile design who was essentially reponsible for the E46 3 series, E39 5 series, and the Z8, and no one seems to bash (or praise) Bangle for those cars.

Then I blame Bangle for hiring the guy that designed the Z4!

I actual like the bangle design philosophy, there are somethings I don't like but overall I appreciate his design, I just wonder what happened with the 7 series.
But the 3, 5, 6, Z4 coupe, and Z8 are all really nice.

I hear they wanted ''class leading trunk space." Having a high creasing boot lid would do that.

I'm not liking the exclusion of the 1 series from that list. Wait until you see the next gen 1series son!

I dont believe for a second he's done with the auto industry. He's just saying that to leave with a bit of grace. I imagine he'll be handsomely compensated to give lectures and what not on design. I would think his return would be welcomed to the highest bidder. Enjoy your hiatus sir.

All Hail Bangle!! lol
