Baby M car coming...
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread....151714&posted=1
Asked whether BMW’s M division was considering producing a sports car to go up against the Audi R8, Mercedes SLS and Porsche’s 911 Turbo, Autocar’s source said, “Such a project would fit nicely with our operations and would be greatly accepted by the engineers. But the priority right now is a more affordable model underneath the M3.”

m1?
that would be nice considering that the sporty 1 series is already faster than the old m3's. the limiting factor will be that they can'y make it both faster and cheaper than the m3.
so really it can't be much if any better than the current model that they have.

I'm confused myself. So I’m guessing the current 1er gets a “Supersports” and the next gen gets a true badged //M?
The current gen 1series is getting a "Supersports" version. Its at least a year out. VERY reliable source said the following:
"The BMW 1er -BMW performance Concept is something similar to the BMW M3 CSL - more advantage of lightweight materials and specific options aimed at the enthusiast. But not offered within the BMW Performance catalog. Although there will be a similar option for the M3 Coupe including Matt finishes as Glacier Silver , Frozen Grey ,Matt Black and Clay White. But do not think of them as CSL's."
This will be a CSL like car- not badged CSL (possibly Csi or tii). This will preview the Super Sports edition that will be introduced in the next generation and be the high end coupe model.
The performance and lightweight components on this car will not be options on "regular" models and will not be based on BMW Performance accessories.
Testing currently is a CF roof, hood, and trunk- Special lightweight (BBS) wheels, new highly bolstered seats and Light Weight glass. Engine is still TBA and in testing.
Those pics above reflect that as they were taken 3 weeks ago. The car was spotted leaving //M headquarters.

What I would hope for (totally off the mark I'm sure): M125i with a turbo'd 4cylinder making ~260-300hp, somewhat lighter-weight and with a more rearward c.g. than the 135i, stiffer suspension, limited slip, same price as 135i.
Nah, they're not that smart...

that wouldn't be linear with the M1 history at all.

I was thinking a 330HP TT m1 @ 3000# (~9.1 lb/hp) and a 430HP V8 M3 @ 3500# (~8.1 lb/hp) could be happy stablemates.
