^^ that's the one I meant of course. It doesn't seem like the AMG version is on their website yet. Definitely the classiest Evo I've ever seen

Much to my chagrin (I wanted a 3 or 5 door hatch version) they are going upscale with this new one and luxury. Their self proclaimed target was the M3 sedan. I think you'll be surprised.

The 2014 golf r is on my prospective buy list next year along with the new gen STi whenever it comes out. I wish the acura Tsx was a better looking car.

Same here. Eying both pretty close and might wait the 2 yr cycle with Subaru to see if they'll bring the 5 door as they are making it for the JDM market and there are a lot of us GR owners who want a replacement. Will give time to see any potential problems with the new DI motor, MPG's, reviews, aftermarket, etc. If I can't wait it's the Golf R. That R will be at STi/EVO power levels and have great MPG. Some real nice cars coming...........

You could also look at the Cadillac ATS and/or CTS, they're both available with AWD as well.

thats b.c he said $40k or below. The CLA45 AMG starts at $47k. Will probably cost $55k with options

I think it's going to take a while for people in america to get used to paying 50K for a 4cylinder. I think the Audi TT did well with their TTS, probably better than expected for them, but it's got more a cult following than any Mercedes I'm aware of. But that just might be b/c I don't ever talk Mercs with people.

I think I'd get less laughs from my friends with V8s if I had a 35K Golf R with go fast mods, than a 50K 4cylinder 4dr Merc.

But really, why AWD? I've driven a few AWD cars and found that I prefer the feel of a 2WD car even if it means I can't always put the power down as well. I find they often feel better in intermittent traction situations. Just a preference thing.

Thank you I grew up in snow country and I have plenty of family who still live there. I do understand snow driving quite well, probably better than most.
Get some snow tires. If they work in Minniapolis, the Midwest or California (Tahoe) they will work in the North East. The OP wants big power. That means he is likely running summer tires. Would you want summer tires in the snow? Remember that all cars have 4WB (4 wheel brakes).
