Every time I sell something of some value on CL, I'd get emails asking if it was still available. To which I'd say "yes", then I'd get replies with scamming stories after that. They are REALLY annoying, like a bunch of parasites.

These scams have been around for a few years, usually on e-bay or craigslist.

These scams are recognized quickly in the Pantera community because there fewer than 6,000 cars in the U.S. Many of the enthusiasts that are active on the deTomaso list or the P.I. Bulletin Board will recognize whose website the pictures were taken from. They are usually very happy to have an excuse to go check out a car for a prospective new owner. Always get VIN, seller's name, and location where the car can be seen.

Big warning flags are the price is way off from the normal market price and there is some reason that you can not see the car.

Another common one is when you are selling a car. The "buyer" wants you to ship the car across the country or out of the country. He will send you a counterfit or stolen company check for a few thousand dollars too much to cover cost of car and shipping charges. Then he wants you to send him the change after you deduct the cost of shipping. It wil usually take a week or two for your bank to discover the check is bogus and ask you for their money.
