R8 isn't really in competition with the GT3. R8 isn't a hardcore sports car.. its a luxury exotic with great performance. It will compete against the 911 C/4/S, and aston martins IMO.

Also, when you're speaking, small microphones pick up your voice and transmit it through the sound system so that rear-seat passengers can hear you without you having to raise your voice.
well... the pricing is better than anticipated... its distinctly lower than a 997 Turbo, as it should be... yet compete's well with an Aston Vantage, its true competition... and offers "more" than a C4S... id say its decent...

Guys, hardly anyone buys GT3s. I know we all love them here on the internet but for the over-tanned professional white male in his 50s who will be shopping for the Audi R8, they are just too hard riding with not enough amenities.
They are in competition with M6, luxed out 997S and 997TT, or Mercedes CL, to serve people who are in the market for something like that but want an alternative. Maybe at that price they will lure away some wishy washy Aston buyers or people who don't want to wait in line for an F-car. I seriously doubt you're gonna see a lot of R8's on the road, and that is going to be one of Audi's main selling points.

ok, i gotta say... that's sick, you gotta be kiddin me...
The S8 may not be as quick as the AMG and M cars from MB and BMW but it definitely has (in my opinion) the nicest interior, nicest sound system, and nicest looks of all of them. The Lexus LS460 is probably built better inside (impeccable materials and fit/finish) but it's not nearly as nice a ride overall (unless you're into total isolation).

Sounds about right for it's intended market, which I'm not a part. I'd take a GT3 (which really isn't a direct competitor to the R8) at that price point.

I agree about the price sounds about right, and I forgot to mention the last NSX was priced at $90K with about 100 less horsepower. I know they weren't selling well, but even if they were asking $80K (ish) for the NSX that's a bit of money and arguably the R8 is better in most ways than the NSX.
I think the GT3 is a great car and no doubt nicer at the track, but the R8 would be able to be driven 365 day a year. I'm sure when people are spending more than $100K they probably have more than one car so it's not so big a deal. But the GT3 is definatly aimed at a different group of buyers.
