Some people would say that spending $32k on a car is a waste of money... it's all relative. $10 to you may be $1 to someone else, and $1000 to someone else. To make a blanket statement that it's a "waste of money" or "it's garbage" is ignorant. Have you driven an SL500 or SL55? If you had the net worth (not saying you don't), would you not consider them for purchase? Isn't it natural that as one's net worth is increased, their purchase decisions move up in value as well?
Don't get me wrong, as I loved the S2000. But, there are a lot of other worthy cars out there too.
For me, the SL500 Sport was an amazing car. Ultra-luxurious, great to look at, and could cover great distances effortlessly. It's ergonomics up there with the best of them, quality was top shelf, and it handled pretty well too. Additionally, I found all the technologies and ammenities all very useful and capable. Lexus does make incredible cars, and good for you if you prefer them. That hardly makes MB garbage. I think the SC430 is a great car, but I've extensively tested both, and would hands down take an SL500 over it any day. And incidentally, while MB is only average in quality, I put on 12k trouble-free miles in 8 months of ownership. Sorry that you seem to think MB only lasts 5000 miles. Like Toyota, MB motors, when maintained properly, are good for hundred of thousand of miles.
And I'm with you... I could give a rats ass about the 3-pointed star on the grille. For me, it's all about substance... and the SL has plenty of it. If the SL had a Toyota badge on it and cost $30,000, I'd still buy it in a heartbeat... who cares that is is MB.
What has your experience been with the car that makes you think "it's a waste of money" or that "it is a piece of garabage?"
