Anyone want an Elise but buy an S2000 instead?
I am trying to talk myself out of wanting an Elise and into wanting an S2000. Do any of you regret buying your S2000 instead of an Elise? Did you want an Elise, but you are glad you got the S2000 instead?

I've heard that the Elise is neither a good enough street car nor a good enough race car. I've never driven on a track, don't really plan on it, but would like to.
Anyway, I am more interested in hearing your stories and whether you regret or appreciate your decisions to buy the S2000 instead of an Elise.

I co-drive a friend's Elise for SCCA autocross last year.
It was fun, but I'm glad I had my S to go home to.
Might have been different if I was tracking the car, but I wasn't.

I drove my S2000 over the dealership to drive the Elise when it first came out. I was amazed at the go cart like reflexes and handling the car had, but it felt cheap inside with its sparse interior and chincy looking gauges. When I got back in my S2000 right after that drive, I thought to myself how much more comfortable and easy to drive the S2000 is over the Elise. Getting in and out of the Elise is a chore and driving it with anyone but the opposite sex is a bit too intimate for me.
Like others pointed out, unless this Elise is purely a toy/track car that you don't plan to use for a night out with the wife (or something along those lines), the S2000 would be a much better fit all around.
Maybe a CR would be just right for someone who likes the S2000 but wants a bit more of a track edge to it.

me. I wanted an Elise big time, but couldn't afford Canadian prices. The sucky thing was that I couldn't import one from US. The S was something I wanted as well, so it turned out okay.

came close couple of times.
3 things changed my mind in favor of the s2000 (this after 5yrs of s2k ownership)
1. in the end i decided i would miss the versatility of the soft top up/down in 15 seconds, vs a fixed targa style softop . I do have multiple vehicles, but I greatly enjoy driving the s2000 to work in the summer, top down. didnt want to spend 5mins putting the top on the elise in the parking lot before heading into work.
2. i worry enough as it is about where i park. with the elise fragile bumpers and shells would be even worse than with the s2k. i work for a fairly large corporation, with over 2k cars parking daily. while i've been fortunate with no damange, I could see it happening at some point, and becoming a huuuuge issue in the elise vs smaller in the s2k.
3. while the elises have dropped in price quite a bit, wasn't convinced it was worth $10-15k in cash to upgrade. would rather put that money else where, to get a better bang for my buck (upgraded boat, house updates, etc).
love the elise/exige. still want one. for me, would want it as car #3, not #1 or #2.

I have a 2002 S2000 and it is a fun car..But i drove an elise and was amazed with its handling and even the torque. The car felt so conected to the road and balanced. It was a car that made you feel like you just wanted to keep driving.Anyhow i hope to get an elise/exige soon as driving the s2000 is not fun anymore after that drive and i like the simplicity of the elise. But i am sure many people dislike that about them. You cant go wrong with either car
