Default Anyone see on the science channel about Carbon

recently discovered by scientists while trying to find a way to build the japan "pyramid" (51 pyramids stacked on top of another... each with 10 story buildings built inside and fully self sufficient... but steel would be WAY too heavy and actually cause the ground to give way 100trillion tons.

they discovered "Carbon microtubes" while trying to find a stronger lighter material..lighter than CF

Carbon Fibre is layers of strong Carbon interwoven but still is brittle,

CF=

-----------------------------------
------------------------------------
------------------------------------

many layers of carbon... which are very strong but still not as strong as a complete circle would be

the Carbon Microtubes create a hallow "cylinder" of carbon... hallow=light, circle=strongest shape..

put together and it makes a material 1000x stronger than carbon fiber and 100x lighter.

this material... seemed very interesting to me.. and makes me think if this becomes mass produced(easy to make considering the poles on carbon align in this arrangement automatically in a certain environment thats easily created.

imagine the stiff/light car chassis's that could/will be produced using this..

i cant wait.

sorry to be random.. just saw this and sparked my mind

I believe it's carbon "nanotubes". They are being considered for any number of things. Nanotube products may well become the plastic of the future.

They're related to buckyballs, first discovered in 1985.

I heard of this term in my chemistry class. One our grad students at UC Berkeley was involved in a discovery of nanotubes that can transmit one electron inside the tube, making "nanowires," which can be used to make nanomachines.

It's already mass produced

only on s2ki

u post something, then they dont say anything about what u said but correct the spelling you did on a post that u typed in like 2 minutes thinking and typing at same time.. not looking over spelling..

then you post WTF and someone backs up the as.shole who didnt say anything about the OP but pointed out mistake

wish i could get my 20$ back sometime and put it to better use... maybe like pelting quarters at hobo's or something.. anything would be better than the 95% population of as.sholes on here

I thought the triangle is the strongest shape. Where did you hear that about circles?
