Anyone owned either of these cars?
#11
My co-worker and close friend of several years has the same Saab. I help her with her car issues etc. I like the car but cannot recommend it. Parts are becoming more and more difficult to find. She was involved in a minor wreck and it took months to get everything required to fix the car - and it was basically only cosmetic damage. The parts issue will get worse and these cars' value may end up declining substantially over time. After my friend realized what a PITA it was (keep in mind I am in Austin, a city with 1m+ people, and it's an eccletic city with a huge Saab/VW/etc. following) she has casually been trying to unload it ever since.

My cousin lives in Austin too (with the 9-3). Didn't seem like much of a SAAB crowd there. If you think that is huge SAAB following, you have no idea... Come to MA, CT, or RI; the most concentration of SAAB's in the world. There were like 4-5 SAAB dealers with 10 miles of my house at one point. SAAB was GM's only global brand (according to SAAB). So much for GM

Wow, the info I'm reading about the turbo issue on the Legacy is kinda crappy. I think I'd rather deal with locating parts on a car that is relatively rock solid, than having a turbo blow up and take out my short block because I had a lapse of mind and went 4000 miles on my oil change.
I still need to drive either of them, though.

Anyone have an idea on the cost of just replacing the turbo with aftermarket to get rid of the vulnerability of the stock one?

You can get an upgraded 16g turbo for $750. I'll be upgrading mine to that shortly. Also just remove the turbo oil line filter to prevent the starvation issues.
That turbo is the BNR evo3 16g turbo. You should also get a $175 oil line kit to prevent any oiling issues in the future. It is a requirement for the 1 year warranty on the 16g turbo.
