Anyone have experience with a 2001 BMW 740il?

It is really remarkable when you can get early 2000s BMW 7s and MB S's for under $10K, when they were $80K new. but the used market prices are the truth. You can buy a 2001 $80K 7 series, for less than a 5 year old Civic.
There is a silver 2001 7 series on my way to work for $7995. looks mint... I've also seen a late 90s 7 for $4995 (!). I've also seen beautiful early 2000s MB Ss for $9995.
All I can add, is I had a coworker that had a late 90s 7, and they said it convinced them to never buy another BMW again. $1800 exhaust, $2500 for a short in the power drivers seat, virtually anytime you need anything done it is at least a grand if not two.
Another former owner had a mouse eat some wiring in the engine bay of their 760. Over $3,000 in wiring later, it still never was completely fixed and they dumped it at a massive loss back to the dealer.

This is a really useful wake-up call for me. I have seen many 2002-4 7s and A8s for ridiculously low prices. I have been thinking 'What a great daily!', but as usual when something looks too good to be true, it mostly is...
