There's a reason older top-of-the-line luxury cars, especially German luxury cars, are so cheap.

Think about it.

I have been thinking of getting one too. I just keep thinking get a used Lexus LS would be much smarter than getting a 7 series or S class. But the Lexus just doesn't look as prestigious(does that even make sense). Unfortunately we have a BMW and MB dealership in our small town but don't have a Lexus dealership so that makes it a tough choice.

That's because once you buy a Lexus, you don't ever need a dealership again.

Sorry, but I'd be all over a used Lexus LS vs an S-Class or 7-Series. Better yet, grab an S8; those things are hot!

Great cars...better than the last two generations of 7 Series, but boy oh boy will it be expensive to maintain.

beautiful car. My 2nd fave looking BMW next to a E46 M3, and probably one of the best looking sedans ever made (with sport package).

I'm not that fond of the looks of the E46 M3 (never drove one so I'm talking looks only). I think the earlier M3s were better. I also find the E39 M5 to look less, well old age Marlin Brando.

It's unfortunate and discouraging to hear what the potential costs of upkeep are...I'm a huge fan of the 740il, it's just a phenomenal car, and ever since it came out, it's been one of my favorite sedans on the road. I'll have to sit on this a bit. It would be wonderful to have this much luxury in a daily driver...if the right one comes along that's been babied, I might just spring for it.
