This thread is useless.

There are problems with every car out there.
Some get good customer service, some bad.
There are horror stories about every car manufacturer's service.
Nobody goes around telling the good stories...only the bad ones.

There...I summed it up.

And by the way, unless you have first hand knowledge of what goes on, I don't think it's fair for you to make generalizations about certain cars and what kind of loaners people get.
Thank you...

Well....I spoke to the BMW manager this morning..... (from the dealership)

I dont know about the west, or you guys are Bsing....

He said, this is the BMW North America dealer rule for loaners...

3 series, or M3 ---->3 series, ONLY, special exception X5 3.0 or 525/530
5 series or M5----->525/530, if not available, 3 series or x5 3.0
7 series or z8------>525/530 if not, 3 series, or X53.0

They do NOT loan M cars, nor do they loan ANY V8 vehicles.
I will take their word for it, not yours. My friends first m3 which was from BMW of manhattan, didnt even get BMW loaners. They had a contract with Enterprise rent a car, where he would get Aleros, Galants, and the occasion Grand Prix. The new dealership in Long Island, he only got 325, 330, or X5 3.0 NOthing else, ever.

Oh yea, lemon laws are for the same problem 3 times. Lucky for him, some problems only happened twice.
The loaner car programs have nothing to do with BMWNA! It's the dealerships that puts out these programs, so it differs according to the dealership.

Ok, so he was wrong on the BMW NA part. But my friend really never got anything with a V8 nor an M replacement, so I guess its just my area then.

Most BMW dealers around here dont even loan out bimmers.

Ok then, I stand corrected.

taken from a thread on Honda-Tech... I was on track in the blue WRX when this happened... I've ridden with the driver of the M3 (who is an excellent driver) and he's ridden with me at Putnam park. (http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=974424&page=2)

a video of what caused this... http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddim...kZmQzMXk1NDE%3D

BMW lost the engine at the end of the back straight which caused the rear tires to lock up. The Integra Type R behind it from which the video was taken had its windshield starred from metal debris coming from the M3...

Good video. By the looks of the shimmy under braking he ITR owner needs to switch to a softer compound pad in back; it took me a couple months to figure that one out ...

I think it may have been a product of braking waay harder than normal and going in to smoke so he didn't know which way to go...

But yeah... I use Cobalt VR in front and some Axis Ultimates in the rear just to keep the initial application from moving the rear around too much.

But don't worry, because he has the extended BMW warranty!!!

That's exactly what I was worried about.
Lots of good that warranty will do that guy.
Just glad he wasn't hurt.

Wouldn't want that happening to me on a tight curve of PCH hwy 1.

Eek.

Right now I'm leaning towards 6MT G35 sedan with SC.
Forgive me for magazine racing: Motortrend 6MT sedan: 5.78 0-60 and 14.28@100mph in the quarter.

New G35 sedan 6MT with premium pkg: $33000 (est)
Stillen Stage III supercharger: $5300
"STAGE 3 - Flywheel - 410 hp / Wheel - 339 hp"

What do you guys think? Substitute for M3?

You think Kev has it bad.... My car has been with the dealer for over 110 days in this calendar year....and they finally decided to change the top end of the engine cause they couldnt figure out what was wrong.... on average my car goes in every 2,500 km... considering i only have 25,000K on my car.... u do the math... all in one year.

Am going to be sending them a very nasty letter once I get the car back....

I have had nice 530 loaner for the last one month... and am making all my long trips on this puppy am going to depreciate this car by at least 10K before I give it back to them.

I know of a local S2000 owner who suffered an mechanical failure which caused a crash while this person was tracking their S2000. He brought a new one soon after.

If you are so scared of "reliability" of an used car then buy an 2005 M3. New car and full factory warranty. Oh wait, you're looking for an used one because you cannot afford a new M3 so you're hating on it now to justify in your little head thats its ok.

Give me a break... for every 1 "horror" story I can find 100 praising the M3 for the excellent machine it truly is. Too bad you can't afford to experience it for yourself.

PS - Before you start boosting about the G35 being the M3 substitute, you should look at its brake and 6 speed transmission problems. Wouldn't scare me but for someone basing their purchasing decision on bs stories from non-owners on internet forums, you will be.

Bullshit.

There is no BMW NA dealer rule regulating loaners. This is solely up to the individual dealer's discretion which vehicles to loan out or not loan out or to offer rental service as a substitute.

Just because YOUR dealer doesn't loan out certain models, does NOT mean MY dealer will do the same.

You don't have first hand knowledge in anything regarding the M3 so until you do, all your claims and statements are baseless.
