Very different cars.

I own an SLK 55 AMG, and I've driven S2k's on multiple occasions.

Which car do I prefer? Well, I wouldn't have the 55 if I preferred the S2000, but that's not the point, the point is that there's different strokes for different people.

You can read all the reviews you want, but until you've had a go in the car, you won't know if it's your type of ride. A standard SLK interior for example will not look much, whilst the AMG does go a few extra steps. It's only when you pay for the new performance package (carbon fiber on the center console and on other interior bits as well as full carbon fiber side mirrors, alcantara steering wheel, speedlimiter removed, the F1 pace car front bumper, etc...) with the alcantara interior (quite rare) will you get a nearly 'all leather' interior that looks a lot better and something you'd expect from an MB. But you'll be looking at a car which will cost you another $10k extra over the top. So you'll have stuff the S2000 doesn't, but you also need to ask yourself if you need or want those 'things'.

Concerning power, the 55 has more, and will do 0-60 in 4.2 or 4.3 depending on your launch, and most of this is thanks to the new automatic 7 speed gearbox (you can change gears using the steering wheel pedals), but if you prefer using a manual, then the SLK is not for you. As simple as that.

Some people will always prefer the S2000, others will prefer the SLK. It's just opinions, and if you want one over another, test drive them first so YOU know what YOU want

Here's a few pics of my car:

Why the did you even start this thread. Why do you need our opinions? From the title of the thread, it seems that you hate the SLK and prefer the S2000. Congrats...you win a cookie.

Go crawl back under the rock you came out from under. Car Talk forums are for discussing opinions and various other crap about other cars.

I've ridden in and took a close look at an SLK350. I have to admit I thought it's looks were fantastic, sans the oversized MB star they're putting on the front end. I really liked the interior. Refined and tasteful. But like these guys said, it doesn't take much to realize the S2000 and the SLK350, while both being roadsters, are completely different car types. I'm sure for the daily commute the 350 is kinder to the back and shoulders.

Did you even read the title? Its obvious he thinks SLK is crap. Fine thats his opinion. I'm reserving judgement because I've never driven one, but why does he want to know the difference between a 350 and the slk55? It shouldn't matter considering he already stated that the SLK is crap...and no thanks. I don't think I'll crawl back under the rock. I've already lived in Philly for 2 years.

Yeah...LA is a big upgrade. Smog, riots, traffic to choke a horse, and the Hilton sisters.

Hey I'm from Philly - Go Eagles watch out for them potholes

BTW I choose not to answer this thread b/c the way it's title "SLK is crap" obviously the poster doesn't know a thing about cars and probably is in no position to buy a SLK55 in the first place.

It'd be like if I posted "Why do Mustangs suck so bad?" and then expect people to give a mature informed answer.
