check out a CPO'd IS-F.

Vs. 335:
-Nicer interior
-way more power thank a stock 335, equal power to a modded-to-hell 335 and in any case much higher reliability
-roughly equal mileage
-2 extra doors (although the backseat is like a 335 coupe)
-way fewer on the road

Vs S5:
-not as nice looking
-faster all around, better handling
-better mileage
-2 extra doors
-way fewer on the road
-cheaper than a new s5
-probably more reliable

And any tickets you get can be attributed to unintended acceleration!
your comparing a car in a different category. A is-f is almost $10k+ more than the 335 and about 6-8k more than the s5. theres also this thing called the 335 sedan lol. and regardless power isn't everything. a modded 335 will take down an is-f. Also better reliability? From what good reliability to slightly better reliability? the difference is minuscule. if you maintain the 335i or the s5 it will last jsut as long as the is-f. and ever think there is way fewer on the road for a reason

dombey should have used the IS350 rather than the IS-F. If we used the IS-F, we'd have to talk about the M3 and the concept of an RS5. In this comparison, the IS-F doesn't stack up as well anymore

IMO, of the ones I've driven, M3 > IS-F > 335

So right now I'm down to a used E55 (the one with the round lights), S5 ... or 335i.
Have not driven an S5 or a 335, but I have driven a friend's W211 E55 extensively.

It feels a bit like a bit like a boat after driving the S every day, but what it gives up in the handling department, it makes up for with brute force. I could be off, but I think the E55 has something like 516 ft/lbs of torque...its a beast. BUT, I would never buy one without some sort of extended warranty, as things such as the Airmatic suspension tend to break.

Also, have you considered a W211 E63? Now that its the "old model," prices are most likely plummeting.

The new S5 convertible has the SC'ed V6 with 333hp. It gets 25% better gas mileage than the current V8, but by all accounts is missing the visceral thrill of the old engine. Rumor has it that it will be in the 2011 S5 coupe.

I just finished posting why I went from the S5 to a S4 after 8 months of owning the S5: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=792181

I love BMW. I had 4 in a row and went back for a fifth after a little love affair with Porsche. My family owns a dealer group that carries both lines and my uncle and I were the only ones who hadn't made the switch to Audi. I decided to give it a try and have not been sorry at all. BMW builds more fun cars. Audi builds more practical cars. That's my basic generalization of the two brands. But my generalization is not as obvious a difference as say Toyota vs. Honda (old Honda that is). Audi's are still fun and BMW's are still practical. It is all just a matter of taste, and taste can change. I'm sure I will buy another BMW one day.

If you're concerned about acceleration, the 335 is def. easier to modify and get power out of. Stock for stock, the S5 is quicker. Both cars have more than enough power for every day use, IMO. Some things to note:

335 - have RFTs and no room for a spare
335 - still have a faulty HPFP design (less than 4% incur failure)
S5 - Issue with control arms on 08 MY
S5 - horrible MPG, i get 16/26
Whats RFT and HPFP?

RFT = turbo?
HPFP = high power fuel pump?
