Any reason not to get a C6 Vette?

On purpose?
1st to 4th seemed to have just a bit too much power fall off. The car still had power but 4th at 15mph is a bit long even for that motor. Remember 4th is a 1:1 ratio in that box.

While it's a great bang for the buck, I really wasn't impressed with the overall quality.. though it is a definite step up from the C5...
That would be enough to keep me from buying one.

A Corvette is very nice, but a NSX is also nice. Granted, the price of a new one is high, but a low miles, pre-owned one can be nice.

The mustang has a long clunky shift, slow steering, a greyhound sized steering wheel, some creaks and rattles, and I can't take it to any track due to it being a convertible...
I guess my other option was to just keep the Cobra for my speed thrill.... not sure why it is so damned fun to run up to about 140mph....
and get a used $15-$16k Street S2000 for my "handling" car / track and eventual race car?
I was thinking a C6 with big exhaust and maybe header, lowered on Volks....that would be the shizzle for the daily ride....... i hadn't heard that they were so bad...maybe i should do some research...

I have driven the C6 a number of times and always enjoyed it, but did feel the new 911 I drove briefly has much better driving dynamics. But the C6 is just over half the price of a well equipped 911, and I really like the ability to remove the top of the C6. They may still be sorting out problems, but an acquaintance that dumped his C6 to buy a SLK55 told me he was sorry, that his MB has had more problems. The C6 is on my list when I replace the S2000.

I don't know why an EVO or S2000 or Elise/Exigy is 'too slow' for you. I think you can get driving satisfaction with less than 400 hp. I know speed/power is nice to have but IMO it's not the only thing that makes a car great.
My last cobra trapped at 116mph..... that is way way way faster than an S2000...
I just like that feel..... but I am not all that pleased with mustangs...... i am way too cheap to spend $75k on a C6 Z06........
I just need to shop around until i find the right C6 now..... black/black with no options other than Z51...hopefully for right around $40k....
I may buy some gold neclaces to try to fit in with the Corvette crowd...

I don't mean to say the C6 is that bad. There have been both good and bad reviews.
All seem to say that it's power per dollar is good. It's the other things: interior, at the limits handling, shifter, steering feel etc. that is where you pay for the low price.

12,500 miles on my 1SA/2lt optioned C6 and not a single issue. I didnt like the shifter action so I replaced with a Hurst shifter for less than $200. THe Hurst shifter makes all the difference in the world. If you get a slightly aggressive alignment -1.25 Camber Front -1 rear that gives a huge improvement in steering feel. I Love my C6, very civilized and quiet as a daily driver.Very fast, great brakes and fun to drive at autocross or track events. Don't believe it when people tell you it doess not handle well, I let several experienced drivers 1 with an Elise,1 with a turbo S2k, and one with a miata drive mine at an autocross and the one thing they all said was that the car felt much smaller than they thought it would when pressed hard on track. All also felt that it was "easy" to drive very fast. IMO, you cannot get a better performance car than the C6 unless you are willing to spend $80k+.
My advice, Get a 2006 it has many small improvements over the 2005, smaller wheel, more rubust diff, along with other small improvements. Also make sure you get a Z51, it has better gearing, engine/trans/power steering coolers, and much better suspension. I think most of the comments about the C6 skipping over rough roads has to do with the Runcrap tires. I have both runfalt and non runflat and the difference between the two is amazing.
Good luck,

Wow, I've been on the Corvetteforum for about 6 years and I haven't heard of any systemic problems with the C6. A few have had a couple of electrical glitches, a few dead batteries, random little things here or there. But, by and large, the C6 has been a very reliable and good car.
The performance is without question. So, I guess for people to knock it, they have to make up bullsh*t about reliability.
