Any experiences with 240-260z
I brought my truck to a body shop today to get an estimate for a repair. They had a 240z stripped done to metal in the shop and being the compulsive car guy that I am I got to thinking gee I sure wouldn't mind owning one of those. I had an 85 300zx which I considered a luxury car rather than a sports car. I understand the older z's were more raw. Any real world opinions out there? TIA

Don't know where to begin...
We have a "mutant Z" -
'72 240Z with...
'78 280Z engine
'82 280ZX Turbo heads
'76 260Z 4M/T, brakes, suspension
body-off restoration...

I owned a 73 240Z, a 74 260Z, a 75 280Z, and a 77 280Z. As a daily driver the 77 with one of the "new" 5 speeds was my favorite. Now I'd love to have a pre-73 240 as a toy. The handling was very good for the time as was the power. The cars were all a pleasure to drive and fairly trouble free. The handling is certainly not up to today's standards but they are still beautiful and fun cars.
I know of a very original example that is in need of restoring in N. FL. and a fairly nice racecar in AZ. If you're interested in either of these let me know.

The first car I owned as a '72 with a 260Z motor and a 5-sp. The 5-sp and the stock rear end made it a great car for eating interstate miles. The usual wish I still had it, but it started to fall apart and didn't have the funds or the time to keep it and fix it.
Also owned a '72 570Z that looked completely stock and had a quiet exhaust. A great sleeper, fun to bait "better" competition into a stoplight GP. Shouldn't have bought it, may of had enough money to keep the other Z, but I was young and poorer manager of money back then.

I've had two '72 240 Z's. The one with head work, headers, and water injection was serious fun and earned me "assigned risk" insurance rates for a few years when I was younger. They are definitely 'raw' compared to any modern sports car. Stock suspension pretty much sucks but is easily fixed.
