Am I crazy for considering a MB SL55 over 996TT?

Is that in canadian dollars?
Not true at all, the 911 turbo is a fine track car -- even totally stock. While it is true the GT3 and 2 are more prepared for the track, they also lack things like back seats and traction control -- which probably accounts for the high accident rate.

No, they are not in Canandian dollars. I've seen 993TTs go as low as 60k, but those usually have more than 30k miles on them. Those will under 10k miles usual go for about 80k to 100k. I am not in the market for a 993TT, so I don't even know whether that's a fair price or not. I am just reporting what I saw.
Please don't get me wrong. 993TT is my favorite car. And one day I'd like to have a fine example of it. Yes, it will do fine on the track as well as on the street. However, the OP clearly stated that he wants a street/daily driver more than a tracker. Not saying the GT2/GT3 variants are better than 993TT. They are just more 'preped' for the track days, and I believe you said the same.
Somehow I never warmed up to the 996, even the Turbo and the GT2/3 models. That's why I would take the SL55 AMG over it. Now, if the OP is asking 997TT vs. SL55 AMG.... There's no contest: 997TT.

Put simply, saying one car beats another, one on or more of the cars being compared doesn't exist yet, is frank-and-beans retarded.

I cant even see myself cross shopping a 911 turbo and any sl different strokes, if i had to pick a vert right now, i think i would still go with my s.
I know the amg's are powerful fast machines, but i am not ready for my white floods and patent leather belt, maybe some shoes with buckles and a fidora.

Dude. The people who buy SLs don't care about fuel economy, and they don't care much about 911 Turbos. Until there isn't a waiting list for AMG SLs, I don't see them jumping through their assholes to make massive changes.

You passed on an M5 and a E46 M3 to buy a used 325...
And now you're talking about SL55s and 996TTs...
Sorry, with SteveC calling

to get back to the topic, the hardcore sports cars don't appeal to me as much now b/c everywhere i go around here the speed limits are 35, 45, or 70 on the highway, and the roads are in horrible shape. so basically i'd be utilizing 2% of the car's power capabilities, and suffer through the brutal suspension settings on crappy MI roads. as i said i don't have time for tracks anymore
BTW, it seems like weight is taken very seriously especially on this board, but i doubt if 0.000001% of SL buyers would ever inquire to the salesguy "so how much does this thing weigh ?? /- yikes what?? 4300lb?? sorry i'll pass"

am i getting old?? haha, well when i was younger it was all about brute performance & racing, and I bought M3s, S2000s, etc and always dreamed of owning a Porsche 911TT after driving one. (surprisingly the base 911 was very mediocre.. ymmv)
but now that I've driven/owned all these cars, I'm beginning to realize that with the type of commuting I do, and how little time I have for actual track driving these days, they don't appeal to me as much... and that's where the MB SL comes in. I just love how this thing looks, and it's the perfect cruiser w/ the right balance of sporty looks and comfy ride. it's on the porky side and i don't like that tho..
another big concern I have w/ the MB SL is the recent serious decline in build quality & reliability of MBs. Are SLs affected as well?
