Am I crazy for considering a MB SL55 over 996TT?
am i getting old?? haha, well when i was younger it was all about brute performance & racing, and I bought M3s, S2000s, etc and always dreamed of owning a Porsche 911TT after driving one. (surprisingly the base 911 was very mediocre.. ymmv)
but now that I've driven/owned all these cars, I'm beginning to realize that with the type of commuting I do, and how little time I have for actual track driving these days, they don't appeal to me as much... and that's where the MB SL comes in. I just love how this thing looks, and it's the perfect cruiser w/ the right balance of sporty looks and comfy ride. it's on the porky side and i don't like that tho..
another big concern I have w/ the MB SL is the recent serious decline in build quality & reliability of MBs. Are SLs affected as well?

I've got a buddy that traded his 996TT for an SL55 because of the same sort of considerations you mentioned. He is staying more active with track days, so he bought a spec Miata for the track. He had to replace the motor in the Miata last year and said it was cheaper than a brake job on the Porsche.
He's having cheap fun at the track and loves the SL on the street. For him it was a good compromise. He's had good luck with the SL.

I h8 Porsches. They all look the same to me... I would go for the SL55 with no second thought. If I had the money, I would spend it on an NSX though

We own an 05 E500 4matic...
It's been to the dealer 4x for airbag and seatbelt electronics...
If your not wearing a belt it will not stop beeping...well both those systems keep breaking down...
Get yourself a new M5 and call it a day. ;-)

Steve, not to hijack the thread, but I believe I recall you owning an LR3, what are your thoughts, we are considering one now.
