also, fitting a PROJECTOR into a REFLECTOR headlight housing is not easy. The Solara and CRV are reflectors. so is the civic (although I have seen aftermarket housings with projectors). I have NEVER seen a good HID implementation retrofitted to a reflector-equipped car. NEVER. They just spit out blue light every which way.

Even if your car is a PROJECTOR, halogen and HID optics are very different.

On the wiring: HID needs a lot of current to start up the electrical arc and get the xenon glowing. The way I think it works is the ballast/igntiters draw LOTS of current, and step up the voltage to the bulbs. This gets the xenon gas glowing. Once they are started up, the power draw is LESS than that of halogens, though. Given that the current draw differs so much, that is why you can't just plug HID bulbs into a non-HID car and have them work. You need the ballast/igniter to do that.

You havent looked in the right places. Tons of people have done HID retrofits into reflector based headlights. Of course there are a few bad examples, but I have seen some really good setups.

Go to www.hidplanet.com/forums and check out the pictures section.
