Acura RSX Type-S?
#21
I had an '02 RSX-S for about a year before I got my S2k. It was a great car- good brakes, handling, and K20 is a gem of an engine.
If you need something practical but fun to drive and you demand bulletproof reliability, the RSX-S is the only way to go for a new car in the low $20k range.

I own a RSX-S. I don't think there's anything better in the under $25k territory. The interior is great, the engine is sweet, and the practicality of it is amazing. The car handles like a true FWD sports coupe should- high limits and if you're getting nervous, lay off the gas and it'll tuck in fast. It's easy to drive fast, once you're used to the 6-speed shifter. It demands to be driven at high rpms, or you won't get what you want out of it. I drive mine moderately (vtec 1-6 times a day), and I still get 28 mpg around town, 31+ on the highway, and people have gotten improvements with Hondata. The only problem I have with it is the stock tires- they don't grip well and last only 30-40k miles.
If you're looking to modding it, there's options for NA and FI. Jackson racing offers two supercharger paths- one with 220whp, the other with 250whp. Cybernation and others provide turbos for more power than that. On the NA path, there's the Hondata/Type-R route that gets around 210-220whp or the TODA route that gets around 250whp.

Feel free to pm if you have specific questions. Mine's still stock, though.

I love the power of the new RSX S versus my 00 Civic Si, but Honda really screwed up with the Suspension setup on the new car.
The Mac Strut design is a compromise at best. And the design of the struts has limited the amount of aftermarket support for the car.
The old Integra/Civic suspension was much more capable (and tunable) then the new design.
It's still a nice car, but I love my S2K way more than the RSX.
Now if Honda would get off their butt and actually offer the Type R, then it would be a tougher choice to make.
