I'm always shocked when I hear these numbers (any brand). Who the heck would pay 56% of TSX's new price after someone else beats on it for five years? No me. No way. never.

It's only $14K or so, maybe a bit more or less. That's not bad for what you're getting.

Consider what other 2002 vehicles cost that much today - BMW 3-Series (comparable), Lexus IS300 (comparable), Audi A4 (if it's got the bells and whistles).

You might not pay it but there are a lot of others that will. Personally, I prefer to buy about two years old, so that the major hit has already been taken by someone else.

As an example of how ridiculous some cars hold up their values ... my uncle once sold his Integra GSR for $16,000 (Canadian) after driving it for little 7 years with around 115,000km on the odometer (normal usage). I believe he bought the car at around mid-20Ks.

Sometimes I wonder the same thing too. But then, a lot of people who drive TSXs (or more so for other cars in general) probably don't drive their cars as hard as S2000 owners do.

A lot of people simply treat these things as appliances. With Honda and Toyota's reliability ... it's really not that much to have 5 years of usage (with about 10 to 12K miles on the odometer on average). Of course, one could argue those people may not know how to take care of their cars well (i.e. don't do regular oil changes, etc)

But I honestly have seen many people who put over 150,000 miles on their cars ... and their trannies and everything (ie. power windows) are still working well.

My 1998 Accord is now nearing 177K miles and the tranny is great, the engine is still smooth, and it's still pretty bulletproof. It's just getting time to replace it. The only electronic part not working is the backlight for the dash clock - I've never bothered to see what it would take to fix it. Everything else is great, including the A/C and interior electronics.

It's probably still worth $4500 to someone, especially with the upgraded brakes, wheels, tires, lights and brake pads.
