Secondly. Even if it were a sports car, wouldn't this title belong to the Miata?

The Mustang handily outsold any other sporty car in the US. We can argue if the Mustang is a sports car but it certainly is a "sporty" car and it's sales numbers are something like 9 million.

Doesn't surprise me a bit, especially if you're throwing in the Lasers/Talons in that number...DSM's had a solid run until they screwed it up in 2000 and they still seem to sell relatively well after that. I loved mine...pretty cheap to mod...relatively trouble free (crankwalk issues aside) and pretty easy to make go fast.

In 2001 after the big, pig eclipse was out, I was at a mitsubishi dealership in Austin helping a friend check out a used car and of course the salesman has to start in on me. I told him I was getting an S2000 the next year and he straight up guaranteed that the eclipse was faster and would out handle the S2000. He was so stupid he thought the S2000 was FWD like the eclipse. I just told him he might want to grab a $10 subscription to Car & Driver before he spews BS like that.
The early ones with turbo and AWD were sports cars. Since that offering has been dropped, they are NOT sports cars.

The BMW Z3 and Z4 are made in the US. Are they no longer German cars? Porsche makes some Boxters in Finland. Are they German or Finish?
And The latest BMW Z4 is no longer built in the good old USA.

Nope, the Miata may be the best-selling sports roadsters, but the best-selling sports car in America is the Nissan Z; the Corvette is not too far behind; both have outsold the Miata. That would make the Eclipse the best-selling sporty coupes?

Eclipse stopped being a sports car a long time ago.
