Default Accord about to hit 200k miles

Hey guys,

Just wanted your opinions. My '97 accord is about to hit 200k miles and I'd like to have it for at least another 50k. What services (fluids/mechanical) is recommended at 200k?

thanks!

I think after a certain point it's mainly just routine maintenance (fluids, etc). Naturally wear and tear items will eventually go at some point. Things like brake pads, rotors, belts, water pump, clutch, spark plugs, etc won't last forever.

Follow your regular maintenance schedule and then just replace wear items when they need replacing. My '95 has about 235K on it. At ~180K, I did a big maintenance with new rotors, pads, plugs, air filter, oil & filter, clutch fluid, trans fluid & had to replace the axles/CV joints because the boots were busted. My timing belt is living on borrowed time, and I should really replace it, too. If I ever get around to it, I'll do the water pump, front main seal and oil pan gasket at the same time.

How much did all of that maintenance cost you?

I have a 1992 integra with 454,xxx. The weakest points (replaced more than twice) are the radiator, alternater, and starter (wonder if it is because they were napa/acdelco parts). As long as you keep up sceduled maintenance and don't let the car heap, you'll be fine for another 200,000.

I don't remember exactly. I did it all myself, so it was just the cost of parts & fluids. When I replaced the rotors, I did a floating-rotor conversion, so that added a little extra expense. I'd say that it was <$500 altogether. I used remanufactured axles from NAPA, but everything else was new parts from Honda.
