really? I disagree, the Cayman's interior is gorgeous, and I would say it is a ton better looking than the vette's guts. Vette>Cayman = performance; Cayman >Vette = interior/luxury

But I agree with the million people in here, Cayman S or don't do it. The base cayman isn't even an upgrade performance wise.

Although the Cayman is a nice car I couldn't in my right ming pay $45k knowing that for the same money I could have bought a new C6 and gotten a lot more performance.

Raul - Cayman S. The base Cayman isn't bad by any means, but the S is the better way to go.

Its pretty, but once you got over the fact that its a Porsche I think yuo would be pretty disappointed, the Cayman S would be nice though

My father sold me his S2000 and bought himself a 911 turbo. It's been almost a year now and he really misses his S2000. Yes the Porsche is the better car and he would never give up the 911 for the S2000 again, but there's something about the S2000 that he really misses.... and that's a near top of the line 911 turbo.

For you to get rid of the S2000 AND the daily driver Passat for a base model Caymen would be madness. You'd love it for a few weeks and then once you got used to the fact that you now own a PORSCHE, you'd REALLY regret it. If you want to look at trading the S2000 only, then I say go for it. But don't trade 2 good cars for the P-car.

If you must, get a new Cayman.

I'd say hold off unless you can swing a Cayman S. Not enough of an upgrade to go to the base cayman (to justify the price), IMO.

Mostly agree, porsche being owned by vw ag won't be immune to all the lil problems that wind up costing a lot.
Actually, Porsche has been buying more and more of VW/Audi, and are on their way to becoming the majority owner (if not there already). Kind of crazy to see such a small automaker buying a much, much bigger one!

I haven't driven a base Cayman, but IMO my Cayman S makes an excellent DD. My wife and I went shopping all over town (and about 40-50 miles south to San Marcos in it) in total comfort, and I was thinking back about how we'd never want to do stuff like that in the S2000.

Go to caymanclub.net, and read other base Cayman owners' feedback - most really love it, and they get excellent gas mileage. I suspect you'd want an S if you drove one, though.

Mine has been as reliable as an car I've ever had, only minor prob. has been grease streaking on the side windows when rolled down. Was fixed under warranty, but not that big a deal.

I have about 12K miles on it, and only maint. has been a $200 oil change @ 9K miles (20K is the interval, but I'm basically halving it) - could do it on my own for a lot cheaper. Maint. intervals and requirements are a lot longer than for the S2000!

I cross-tested against a Z51, but saw the value in paying extra for a lower powered car (and still do). A buddy bought an '08 Vette earlier this year and already sold it b/c he didn't enjoy driving it too much on the street. He recently drove my CS and told me to never sell it - he thought the steering feel was nirvana.

In short, don't listen to the naysayers who bitch about maint. costs and reliablity concerns - the quality is a couple steps up from an S2000 IMO, and operating costs aren't that bad. Only you can tell if it meets the needs currently being handled by 2 cars, though. I gave up my S2000 and nearly $35K for my CS, and it was a worthwhile trade to me.

I have to admit I test drove a couple of potential CS replacements (STI, G35) yesterday b/c I have a kid on the way and it would be nice to have a fun vehicle the whole family can travel in, but I just can't get excited enough about anything to do that (we also have a Jetta TDI and Ridgeline, so it's not really necessary).

I agree w/ others that the "Internet Special" price seems a bit high. You s/b able to squeeze another $5K out of them if that's the car you want.

What if I traded my '06 VW Passat and '02 S2000 for an '08 Porsche Cayman.

You'd still be slow on the Dragon.
