I saw my first 987 yesterday on my way to work, in that dark midnight blue color. I have to say, in pictures I could hardly tell the difference, and in fact thought the 987 looked "de-volved" from the 986, even side by side pictures. But in real life, I just "got" what they were trying to do. There's just something about the way the front fenders seamlessly flare out over the wheels now that is sorta 959-ish. It's a very striking car in real life and a refreshing update on what was already a beautiful shape IMHO

Great review, Walt.
The new Boxsters look great, so it's good to hear they're performers, too. I am still holding out for the Boxster Coupe and the next GT-R. So many great cars to choose from!!

Rai- I have to admit if the 987BS was avilable 2 years ago, i would have easily bought that over the NSX.
It's funny 911 people didn't like the Boxster b/c it looked so much like the 996 and now it's performance is getting close to those cars, very close (or better than) the 996 cab they're still selling.
The 997 cab can't get here too soon; people will start to evaluate if those jump seats and a few extra hp are worth $30K extra.
When I drove an 02 BS, I had a list of things I didn't feel comfortable with for a $55K car. There is a list of things I don't like about the S2000 but it was a lot cheaper. After reading about the new BS, it seems as if Porsche has read my mind:
1) Tilt + telescoping wheel
2) more leg-room, more head-room, move the roll-hoops back (or up) a bit
3) more power won't hurt
4) get rid of the aemoba head lamps
5) better shifter
6) etc...
Still isn't cheap, but now it seems more worth $55K

The Boxster S has really taken a big step up in performance. It used to perform fairly close to the S2000. Now, looking at the numbers from the March 2005 Road & Track article it has made the big leagues. Its lap times at Buttonwillow's West Loop were pretty close to the 997S, Viper, and C6 Vette.
Also, looking at its acceleration numbers relative to other cars tested by Road & Track the Boxster S is now comparable to the M3 and NSX in a straight line.

So, how's the standard suspension feel by comparing to our S. Cuz I know they offer like ten thousands options, one of them is the more sporty suspension, something like that, like when u press SPORT button, the struts will become stiffer. I'm also interested in buying one, but worry how much will be after adding whole bunch of options, such as:
aero package, wheels upgraded, HID, heated seats, ......., it probably costs like 80k.

The standard suspension feels great. On the 19" wheels, the ride is firm but damping is very good. I can't comment on how it compares to a stock S because my car has been on Ground Control springs for over a year. The Boxster S ride is not as stiff as the ride on my car.
I would be happy with the standard suspension.
