Default 95 civic ex motor into 96 civic

I have a 95 civic ex 5sp with a good motor and tranny, but body damage from a collision. I just found a 96 civic ex automatic with a blown motor for sale. How difficult would it be for me to put my motor into the 96 civic?

The 96's are ODB2 and the 95's are ODB1, correct? How would I deal with this issue?

Any info is appreciated!

Thanks,
Dave

Even better, swap a b16 in there.

Well, I already have the motor, and I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible. What's a b16 cost? I'm thinking this might be a good everyday car for me.

full b16a (jdm 160hp) changeover will be about 1200 plus shipping, for the parts. the b16a2 (usdm 160hp, jdm 170hp) will be slightly more because i believe it came with a hydro clutch, instead of a cable-style. b16 is basically a direct bolt in for both of those cars since it came in the 92-95's in japan, and the 99-00 body in america. obd2 -> obd1 wiring harnesses are very popular, these swaps have been going on forever. look into it on clubsi.com for b16 information, or any other civic forums. your biggest problem in this swap would be changing the parts of an automatic car, to a manual car (i.e. - making a spot for the clutch pedal etc.) - consult civic forums for even more info.

Its physically possible. However, you will have to use a P28 ECU and convert to OBD1. The distributor is different from 95-96 as well as emissions equipment and the lack of a crank position sensor on the 95.

Frankly, these are so cheap... just get a 96 D16Y

Thanks for the info every body. I'll take a look at some of the civic forums mentioned.

Check your local regs of you have emissions testing, it's generally illegal to put an older motor in a newer car, i.e.

96 motor in 95 = OK

95 motor in 96 = no pass emissions

Hmm, ok, something else to consider.

D@mn feds!

I'm getting the impression that this might be a bigger hassle than what it's really worth...

get a usdm b16a2 - simple changeover, emissions legal.
