It would be the Z06 hands down, except for the fact that they don't have the notchback this year. That was a deal breaker for me. I might have to go with an M5 now, but not sure if I'm ready to drive around in a sedan. I've always loved the 993's and 996's, but I'm concerned about the realiability and maintainance. Any first hand opinions on these porsche's would be appreciated. Nsx is always a good option, It would have to be 98-01 in black. Damn it, now I'm stressed out

Hmmm...based solely upon the choices in your poll, I'd absolutely go with the Z06. I just don't see much value in the Porsches. But, I'd have to drive a Z06 and Z51 back to back to see if there is an appreciable difference between the two in the fun factor on the street. Of course, you can't begin to push the limits of the Z06 on the street. I thought the CNN review that more or less said the Z06 is boring on the street was interesting. But, it is just so damn cool to know that your car has that kind of potential.
Either way, I'd also get a new Miata too and still be around the price of a 911S. That way, I'd also have a light-weight roadster that could be pushed to its limits on the road. A super-car and a car that can be taken to its limits by a hack like me (with the top down on a beautiful, blue-sky NC day, to boot) sounds like a nice combo.
And, if I went with the Z51, I could get the Miata and still get close to getting a nice 3.6 Passat or some other auto, luxury-type commuter, all for around the price of a well-optioned 911S. Like I said, I just don't see much value in the Porsches, but they are, no question, fantastic cars.

I'd only even consider the 997S or Z06.
The 997S got my vote without any real thought. Take that off the list and I pick the Z06. Without either on the list I'd keep the theoretical money in my pocket.

996TT until the 997TT comes (if ever). The 996TT is still > the 997 in terms of performance and around the same price used -- and I need the rear seats. Of course I want and plan on getting a Z06 too -- why make such hard decisions.

Hey, the NSX getting some votes, Viper too.
I'd have thought the Z06 would eat up all the "500hp + big TQ" votes and the 911S would have eaten up all the "can drive it every day" sports car votes.
Not a choice in the poll, but... S2000 + LS430 has some appeal. Sports + Luxury '2-car combo' (IMO better than M5 'all-in-one')

Gotta go with the Z06 and a down payment on a house.
The 997 is a beautiful car, but I really find it hard to justify the added cost when the perfomance just sin't there.
The NSX is pretty sexy, but it's entirely too slow for this calibre of competition.
The Viper is a looker, but I prefer a little more civility in my ride.
The M5 is a tough one to pass up. Lots of power, everyday refinement.
The Merc doesn't have a manual tranny. Dealbreaker for me.
That leaves the 996TT- a fantastic car.... I certainly wouldn't say no if given to me, but I think I would rathe rhave a *new* Z06 for the price of a *used* 911. Tough call, though.
