For $8000, what would u get?
my friend is looking for a used car around $8000,
and she wants something reliable with nothing rides rough with not too much mileage on it (less than 50,000 would be good)
What would be a good choice?
Please, no MR2, miatas.
How is RSX? any haters?
Shes looking into civic, rsx, crv or something like that.
Please educate me!
Thanks.

I would agree on the EP Civic SI hatchback (though few are around $8000), or a Volkswagen GTI, which is quite cheap to fix and gets good mileage without being particularly harsh riding. I was going to suggest a 240SX, but it doesn't sound like she's a gearhead, or in the market for a 2-door coupe.
You might be able to find Sentra SE-Rs or Altima SEs. Both of those are reliable. Or get a Maxima. Big but bulletproof.
As far as the 50,000 mile stipulation goes, as marthafokker said, forget it. Ain't gonna happen unless it's a Hyundai Accent.

I am pretty sure you can get a nice Corolla for $8000. They don't ride that bad. Civic for $8000 at around 50K is hard to find. RSX, as some have said, forget it. Just out curiousity, how the HELL are these RSX's keeping their resale soo damn high? I look into RSX type S, and it's still like 16-17K? Crazy....
Or if she wants a larger sedan with more power, get a 98ish Maxima GLE. It's reliable, somewhat classy, cheap, V6, a lil luxerious, and blows the doors off Civics and Corollas
If she wants a bit of everything, tell her to look into the Maxima. However, you will not find any under 50K (which is ok because they are pretty reliable even at high mileage)

It really depends on where you're planning on buying one. Craigslist, ebay, used car dealership, used car from actual dealership? Craigslist and ebay would probably be your best bet for the best deal. Gotta becareful though and try to find one in your region.
