Um, I think I stated more than once I didn't believe they could do it. And I am untainted by AutoExpress. I had never seen the video in question, nor heard any of the hype surrounding the R32 track time dust-up. I'm not coming into this with a previous bias.

Not that this is even remotely true, but what kind of times would we be expecting for the 'Evo' iteration of the GT-R if it is made available? The test mule seems to be the $50-70k version that will hit dealers soon, but there was rumor of a much more expensive model.
That version could be lapping already and could be putting up very nice numbers. Probably still wouldn't be close to 7:15, but I wonder what it would be hitting.

What's the C6 Z06 running? 7:40-something? It'll be especially interesting to see how the new M3 compares to this GTR.
Also, anyone got a time for Lotus Exige S? I'm thinking it is still high speed limited.

F1 ... these guys can probably do 7:15 times
In mid 70s Nikki Lauda managed 6:58 time during F1 qualifying. The only F1 driver/car to ever post sub-7min time there. Though, those days the track was longer ... about 30sec longer so in todays terms, that time would be more like 6:30.
Though, Porsche 956 managed 6:11 in early 80s ... this is the same track length as is being used now for the full laps.
What's the C6 Z06 running? 7:40-something?
That's the claim from GM. Though, it'll be independentrly tested by SportsAuto next month, so we'll see. Considering that brand new 911 just posted 7:50 by the same people, you'd think that the C6 Z06 would be aorund there as well.
Also, anyone got a time for Lotus Exige S?
I'm not aware of the Exige S being tested there (yet).
Though, the N/A Exige posted 8:42 while it had the Rover engine. With the Celica powerplant it was in low 8:30s (8:33?).

I can't believe anyone here would believe anything posted by that rag....afterall we're they the one who posted the 'scoop' about the civic type R-R(or better titled type HAR HAR) that was shown to be a 'tuner' car not a production car.
Zero credibility = zero information

Driven by Jan Magnussen. When sports auto gets a driver as good as Jan and as familiar with the Corvette's handling as Jan is then they will have credibility on this issue. Sports auto will get nowhere near Jans time, Just like I would not be able to. The car is capable of it, the only question, is the driver capable of it?
Do you doubt GM's claim?
Go to an ALMS race and ask Jan for yourself.
